NBC selling stations (WJAR and WVIT)?

Re: New York Times Company stations

I think you are right. Closest would be Norfolk/Hampton Roads VA at #41. Providence is #39.

NO. Providence is market #51.

First off, this is part of a larger acquisition that also includes WVIT Hartford (#28) and stations in Raleigh/Durham (#29) and Columbus, OH (#32). And, NYT already owns KFOR in Oklahoma City (#45).

All are larger than Providence/New Beige - which will not even be NYT Co's largest New England market!

WVIT Not Part of Sale

WVIT is not part of the sale.

The stations according to Broadcasting & Cable are: WNCN Raleigh, WCMH Columbus, WVTM Birmingham, and WJAR Providence.

The reason people here thought WVIT was involved was because Mr. I Know Every Joesph Gallant said they were on the coast-to-coast tv board. That loser must've got confused. WVTM, WVIT, very similar calls.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones Mr B.

Take my advice, stop bad mouthing others on here.

Or else it WILL come back to haunt you?

Doesn't what happened to you on here in the past teach you anything about respecting others?

two things

The Providence/New Bedford DMA is #51. It is NO longer #48. And it's sure not #39.

Jay: I stated in my original post that WVIT was included in the sale. I was just repeating the rumor that FTVLive had reported. Evidently, WVIT was not included. If you want to flame someone, it should have been me...and the FTVLive website for reporting that rumor.

Yes, Mr. Gallant seems like a know it all (and it really gets annoying..especially his annual "NBC Buys WHDH" predictions), but this one wasn't his fault.

Even so, WJAR will STILL be represent of the smallest markets involved - not the biggest. Far from it.

So, my original point stands.

Semi-related WVIT-TV Question

How long did Viacom own WVIT-TV channel 30 before NBC took it over? I had part of a sign-off of theirs on tape from early 1988 and it proclaimed Viacom ownership back then.<P ID="signature">______________

Viacom bought Channel 30 in 1978.

Re: Semi-related WVIT-TV Question

WHNB-TV became WVIT on 7/17/1978.
