NBC SHELVES NEW ROCKFORD FILES

Deadline.com reports the project is on hold because writer David Shore is
too busy writing for Fox's HOUSE. Many on this board were skeptical that
a new Rockford Files would be as good as the original when the project was
first announced. Others thought finding someone to fill James Garner's shoes
would not be an easy task.

That's the problem - filling James Garner's shoes. Jack Lord had hard shoes to fill, too, but at least Hawaii Five-0 was also about the action and the scenery. The Rockford Files was more about the lead character, and his interplay with the other regular characters and guest stars on the show. And Garner has a lot of charisma.

Don't know about now, but they were talking about Dermot Mulroney for the role. He's a good actor, but not particulary charismatic or versatile, that I've noticed.

i am glad it is not going to be made.some projects need to be left alone.not ones that will not do the original justice.
i wish hawaii-50 was not made.it is not nearly as good as the original.

I think some of these recycled shows should of stayed in the recycle basket.Knightrider, the Bionic woman did not last .Hawaii Five O is still on tv.I wonder if the new Jim Rockford will still have his trailer and also the Firebird.I guess we will never know.

p.s. I read somewhere about the Six Million Dollar Man was going to remade.I guess they have to add some more zeros for inflation.

Hey, so is 90210 (though the new Melrose Place didn't fare very well)!

Who could you possibly find to play Jim Rockford? It couldn't be done. James Garner defined that role, just like he did with the old TV show "Maverick".

Personally I think the big networks should leave the classics to RTV & Antenna TV but what do I know? Afterall, it ain't like I AM AN AVERAGE, ORDINARY VIEWER WHO JUST HAPPENS TO LOVE CLASSIC TV

Hint.....Hint networks.....

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D

In my opinion, the same is true with William Shatner and Captain Kirk, and Leonard Nimoy and Spock... but look what they did... ::)

There was only one Jim Rockford. There were only one Thomas Magnum and Higgins.

Here's an idea: Get rid of the under 35 years of age writers and find some people who have originality in their souls. That's right, it's called reverse age discrimination, and I'm all for it.

While I enjoyed it I thought the new Star Trek without Shatner and Nimoy was kinda flat. They might have trouble doing another one.
