NBC Sports 1510...?

Network as well as local,I hear.NBC wants to crosspromote its cable sports brands(NBC & Comcast regionals) Radio to the rescue @ShawnMertz

On the national end, Erik Kuselias..he was w/ESPN Radio before. On the local end, not sure yet, but will have details soon @chestnuthell

(network launches 9/4()

now only if they could get the W-NBC call letters they'd be all set, So would they have people on from Comcast sportsnet like Gary tanguay and stuff???

I still think WEEI should get "NBC Sports Radio Network" because WEEI already has NFL games. And most NFL Games are with Dial-Global as well as with "NBC Radio Networks" will be with Dial-Global.
and "ESPN Radio" should go to 1510am
that's my idea.
Only Program Management knows what they want. Not me

ESPN bills themselves as the worldwide leader in sports and is a recognizable brand. WEEI has a contract with them that includes putting it 24/7 on 850 soon. NBC sports is just starting out--they do have the NFL package and we'll see if they put it all or mostly on 1510 or will offer to WEEI in some way (Sun night, Mon night).
Who knows.
Obviously the most imp. thing to WEEI is local shows and Sox/C's and ESPN fills overnights plus there are
regular and playoff games in various sports.
From what we're hearing there may be local content on the 1510.

I almost thought NBC would try to get on WEEI-(FM) overnights etc with the 24/7 ESPN on 850 coming soon
but now NBC gets a fairly good signal in a major market. Here's how the networks stand--and again local
is the most important but if you want something like the World Series (which I'd like to be able to actually
hear at work, thank you) the networks can be a good thing.

ESPN: 850 and 93.7 (will 93.7 go for something else overnight? or maybe do another network plus ESPN
in some ways?)
Fox: Now on 98.5 but will they have to dump it with CBS Sports to launch in a few months? (WEEI? or 1200?)

CBS Sports: Some content is sure to wind up on 98.5; don't know how much
NBC Sports: 1510, etc.
Yahoo!Sports may be homeless again unless maybe can find a few spots on 1510 etc.

So how is the 1510 signal in your Postal facility in N Billerica or wherever? Best signal should be during CH (only four hours a day), second best during non-CH daytime (two hours after local sunrise to two hours before local sunset, worst at night. Nighttime signal in that direction should be quite poor--maybe not listenable, especially given the killer first-adjacent skywaves from WWKB and WFED. Best of all would be to listen in northern Finland. Guess you could try to get some Finnish DXer to take the signal off the air and stream it on the Internet :D

It's North Reading...I don't think it would come in on the workroom floor for the most part, but I will say in the four years I worked in Woburn (1986-90) I could pick up 1510, then WMRE, on the workroom floor. We had a lot
less machinery then. WRKO came in well too--I would listen to Larry King overnights--and you could
see the RKO sticks in Burlington from our parking lot. 1510 will come in in our breakroom I'd think.

At one point 1510 got an NL playoff game (a couple yrs back) and I was able to pick it up in the corner of
the workroom floor, away from machinery.

(The Woburn facility was on Washington St.,around the corner from the Woburn Mall and not far from I-93)

Dem Underground mentioned last Sun that here on these radio boards we are speculating that 1510 could be NBC Sports the day after Labor Day (there is a "1510NBCSportsRadioBoston" facebook page at least)

>>Speculation on the radio-info boards is that "Revolution Boston" AM 1510 in Boston will flip to NBC Sports the day after Labor Day.

alp227 mentions how Dial Global ended its contract with Rev. Boston, then Santos said there were "technical difficulties". He says he wishes CC could come to its senses and put prog back on what is now all comedy 1200. Only a couple responses to it.

Domain name and a bare bones template (no content other than "My Site") up at http://1510nbcsportsradioboston.com/

Can someone please translate the above into English? I can't understand it. Maybe somebody here reads minds.

"Another sports station in Boston? There are already too many. Looks like WEEI should just broadcast on 93.7 (and thus have 850 run something besides sports)". There we go.

While the likes of comedy are starting to make inroads in different markets, sports is a growing format...and a place where AM stations can at least make a couple bucks and keep the power bill paid, at worst. Most places have one or two major sports stations, plus maybe smaller ones affiliated with the various networks. You have ESPN, Fox Sports, Yahoo Sports, CBS/Cumulus,
and NBC/Dial Global at least among networks. Here in town, two strong stations with play by play of local baseball and hoop teams (WEEI) and football, hockey, and soccer teams (WBZ-FM). Add to that college sports, local hosts, and so on. WEEI has supposedly said they would switch
AM 850 to all ESPN in a Globe article, etc.; they haven't actually officially said they would
though Jason Wolfe did a generic "we've always had a good relationship with ESPN and hope to do more in the future" type of statement. (If they do this, they pocket a few bucks and get to clear ESPN ads/shows). Now it looks like 1510 will soon be NBC Sports Boston, if the domain names and facebook page (and some insiders letting on) are an indication, perhaps with some local content thrown in (Comcast-NBC-Dial Global etc.)

Would sports bring in more $ to 1510 that prog talk, cons talk, religion, ethnic, oldies,
whatever? I think they feel sports reaches a wide variety of demos. Talk in general is said to keep audiences hooked in and even a mostly birdfed network might attract more ears than,
say, running politics (Step. Miller, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, Ed Schulz, whatever).

Of course the local stations are probably bemoaning a lack of interest in the Sox due to
poor play, etc. (not that the Fellowship of the Miserable can't attract callers) and a likely
NHL lockout may sideline B's till January. But the bigwigs feel sports is where the money is.
Those who say "there are too many sports stations already" should remember the line in WKRP:
"But there already are lots of rock stations in Cincy." "Well, rock is where the money is."

So they figure, people want sports, we'll give em sports. (And I didn't even mention ESPN
Deportes.) And we'll see if Fox winds up on 1200 if CBS/WBZ-FM gives them up in favor
of the new CBS sports network.

We don't know yet for sure (it prob is) if 1510 is to be NBC Sports Radio in a matter of weeks, but the net is claiming 100 affils already.

radio-info news today:
>>NBC Gives Rodney Harrison Weekend Sports Talk Radio Show. Rodney Harrison is part of NBC TV’s “Football Night in America” but he’ll cut his sports talk radio teeth on the new NBC Sports/Dial Global venture beginning September 8 with his weekly two-hour “Safety Blitz with Rodney Harrison” show. NBC Sports Radio debuts soon and Dial Global says it has about 100 affiliates on board for the sports radio network’s launch.

i direct you to the following article http://www.deadline.com/2012/06/nbc-teams-with-dial-global-to-create-nbc-sports-radio-network/

basically looks like affiliates will also have a Comcast sports net in town on tv as well for cross promotion and interaction etc. so maybe Eric Dickerson will have his own radio show or be able to contribute etc.

If 1510 became NBC Sports, it might be a good idea for Sunbeam to get involved, and change it to WHDH, to cross promote NBC, Channel 7, and compete with WBZ FM. Just a thought...

It appears 1510 is going NBC Sports, as they have become the predecessor (Yahoo Sports) today.

Today??? Say what? AFAIK, WWZN has been running Yahoo! Sports in all dayparts except overnight for at least a month--maybe closer to two months. Have they now given Brother Stair the heave-ho from overnights? The only way I could see them axing Stair is if NBC sports is at least matching what Stair was paying. I'm only guessing, but I imagine that Stair was covering the AC power bill and the lease payments on the Waltham transmitter site.

Yes Yahoo Sports has been running in most slots, though Santos is still on 3-6p I believe. It sounds like Bro. Stair is prob still on overnights. I just tuned in and it sounded like Tim Brando from Yahoo
Sports and he was talking to someone and promoting a weekly show (Tue nights?) on "CBS Sports".
I thought, CBS Sports Radio isn't supposed to start --as a full fledged network--till January, but maybe they're talking CBS Sports on Cable. (It's possible 98.5 would run a CBS Sports show or even supply the network with programming.) Anyway, what I'm getting is a probable switch to
NBC Sports by next Mon or Tue. The NBCSportsBoston facebook group (though mostly empty) has been up for several weeks and domain names have been registered.
I would think if they don't have a full lineup from NBC Sports and locally originated shows (Comcast-New England-related?), they can always tap into Yahoo sports to fill it up. (Also aren't there brokered shows on wrestling or poker or something that pop up? Or used to.)

And who knows, Santos and Bro. Stair may still run though if they want, say, a locally originated show for pm drive, Santos may wind up in a diff. slot somehow.

And don't forget they also have Sp. language Red Sox. You can hear them lose in a second
language, courtesy of WWZN.
