NBC To Air Three Hours Of Comedy Programming In Primetime Thursdays?

That's what's being hinted after the current ("and very low-rated") installment of "The Apprentice" ends its run. Also, previous hourlong series in the 10 PM slot ("Parenthood") did not fare too well.

And of course, there's that "Jay Leno Show" thing.

Rumor has it is that "30 Rock" would lead off the 10 PM hour.

"They've got nothing to lose at this point," said one source.

You never know... Fox moved "The Simpsons" to Thursday nights for awhile up against "Cosby" and actually beat them, either in demographics or total ratings... All I remember was the Fox-co-owned New York Post crowing about it on the front page of their paper one day...
 
If the ratings are poor, why not move the remaining content to a sister network and go full speed ahead with Comedy Thursdays immediately...?

Actually, Parenthood aired (and is currently airing) on Tuesdays. You may be thinking of "The Marriage Ref", which aired last Spring in the post-Leno era. (My understanding is that The Marriage Ref got decent numbers.)
 
Thanks for the clarification; I was merely going by what was written in the article I linked. Like most people, I am not an avid viewer of NBC primetime.
 
Wow, you'd think NBC programmers were geniuses: No sooner than the network announced a three-hour comedy block on Thursdays, ABC has announced the debut of two new sitcoms which will air on Wednesdays as part of a three-hour comedy block of their own:

At least they're not moving Jimmy Kimmel to 10 PM... ::)

And yes, one of the new series is titled "Happy Endings"... finally, something new for the PTC to get worked up over... :D (But at least it's not nearly as suggestive as "Cougar Town"...)
 
It doesn't seem ABC is planning on running 6 half-hour comedies, all with new episodes, on the same day.

NBC is actually going with 6 half-hour comedies (with all new episodes on a given night) on Thursday.

I think Fox experimented with 6 half-hour comedies on Sunday back in the 90s, and NBC might have done something like Night of 1000 Laughs on some nights back in the 90's/2000 but it was some Tuesday shows that were just shown on Thursday, rather than showing a new ER episode.

Last season, ABC seemed content milking Modern Family post January by running Modern Family twice a night, 8pm episode a rerun; altogether, just 3 comedies on Wednesday. Ugly Betty followed at 10pm but it was mostly a place to bury it
 
I still say, outside of after the Super Bowl, it's odd seeing sitcom programming in the 10 PM hour.
 
I can't remember all the details, but there was a period in the late 80's or early 90's that CBS had 3 hours of sitcoms on Monday nights.
