NBC To Debut "Nonstop" Channel For Philadelphia

Next week, NBC will be launching a new channel patterned after "New York Nonstop," which airs up to eight hours of local programming every day and airs on one of the subchannels of WNBC/4 in New York.

More info:

The article doesn't specifically report this, but I would assume that the station would be called "Philly Nonstop" and be carried on one of WCAU/10's subchannels.

It's going to be carried on WCAU-DT2 which already is on Xfinity and Fios. The NBC Plus weather is going away.

NBC10 News @ 7 on right now. At first I thought it was a rebroadcast of 6pm news but, it's live. More useful than live well tv already. They could move their 10pm newscast over from channel 17 to 10-2. If channel 6 was smart, they'd do the same thing with 6-2. They could put Action News on at 7pm and 10pm.

And if the audience doesn't want it, it'll go away. Problem solved. Likewise, you're not being compelled against your will to watch. Problem solved again.

Unless, of course, one holds some irrational grudge. ;)

I liked when 6.2 came on the air and they replayed the 6pm Action News at 8pm. It would be nice if a live Action News was on at 10pm on Live Well TV. They also need to down convert a SD feed of Live Well TV for non HD boxes. How about renaming Live Well to something like ABC2? You could have 6ABC2. In NYC, it could be ABC7.2

It doesn't fit the business model to rename it--it works better to create its own "brand" for them at this point, so they could sell it beyond the ABC family.

But, the stuff on it? Why only on HD cable boxes? Why can't they down convert it to SD for Comcast and Verizon? Action News at 10pm would be good too. They already have soccer games on it when they can't put them on 6.1 and they all have the 6ABC logo and not Live Well.

As far as Live Well not being available on SD boxes you're not alone. We have the same thing here with KABC 7-2 LW being HD only. :-\

It is odd as all the -1 channels are only broadcast in HD yet show up on SD boxes. Just saying. ;)

Don't know or much care why they don't downconvert it; perhaps it's just not what they want to do with a dedicated HD network. As for calling it Livwell, it's not WPVI's decision to make--ABC callis it that for the earlier-mentioned reasons. Yes, the local stations can plug in special shows (plus fill hours with non-'network' programs), but the overall branding is done for a larger business reason.

WNBC/New York also has a live 7 PM newscast on their "Nonstop" channel, anchored by the legendary Chuck Scarborough.

If the Comcast NBC merger goes through, I wouldn't get too used to this channel. I suspect Comcast will try to keep the bare minimum on the broadcast NBC stations, and fill more local schedules with infomercials, and focus more on the pay content that is for national audiences. We've seen the loss of local content with CN8/The Comcast Network.
