NBC - Uneven Sound Levels

Since I was working on Tuesday I missed the live finale of The Biggest Loser on NBC. I'm watching it on COMCAST On-Demand and the sound levels are horrible. They keep going loud to soft and soft to loud. It's annoying as heck. I keep having to adjust the volume level on my tv. And this is happening during the show, not during commercials. (Not many commercials On-Demand).

Possibly they could be struggling with this new Federal law that limits the uptick
in volume going into commercials?

This reminds me that I TiVo "30 Rock". It's an impossible show to watch live (that includes the live broadcast). I often have to go back and see what I missed. Of course, it helps to have it record because they keep moving it. And "@#$% My Dad Says" is on so I'd have to record one or the other.

The characters' mouths were not moving at the same time as what I was hearing. It was like a Samurai movie. I forget which week this was true. I don't think this is TiVo-related.

Maybe it's my imagination but I've never thought NBC had the
sound quality of ABC, CBS, or Fox; at times over the years I've
thought NBC was almost inaudible; everything seemed to sound
about two octaves lower than the other networks. Now I'm not
so sure I was just "hearing things".

Maybe NBC just tries to keep some decent dynamic range in their audio? That's why the (ungodly over-compressed) commercials stand out as being way too loud.
