NBC Wants Jon Stewart

I say, get rid of Jay, put Conan at his spot, and move Jon to Conan's spot.

Get rid of Conan? That's stupid!

Then again, we are talking about NBC...

You may get your wish...Mid-2009.

While NBC may decide to keep Leno and give O’Brien a reported $40 million payout, either way it has a hole at 12:30 a.m. ET, because O’Brien would undoubtedly leave the network if it pulled The Tonight Show from him.

Remeber the summer of '92?

Another possiblity may be a Leno/Conan flip, with Leno at 12:35.

Okay...
This is a bad article.
Jay Leno has already announced his retirement, and set it up for Conan to replace him. That's already set in stone, IT IS IN HIS CONTRACT. Why would NBC buy out somebody like Conan who wins his slot every single night, who everyone already knows to be the next Tonight Show host. For them to change their mind would create an enormous PR problem. First, they'd tick off Jay Leno, who WILL RETIRE, regardless. Second, now they'd confuse all the viewers and stars who have known Conan as the new host. When you have a star like Conan, you don't just let him go. Plust, Conan would probably sue. Just would be a bad situation. NBC is not going to do that.

What the reporter for B&C missed is that NBC needs a replacement for Conan (and it is not going to be Carson Daily). John Steward has previoulsy shown interest in being in late night, and wanted to take over the Late Late Show from Craig Kilborn, but coouldn't because he was under contract with Comedy Central. NBC is trying to beat CBS to the punch line, and they are right in doing so.

Sorry, imho, very bad article, completely missed the point...

Jon Stewart might be a good successor to Letterman whenever he decides to hang it up, especially since he's already in the CBS family, but I just don't see someone with Stewart's talents taking a 12:30 gig.
