NBC30, FOX 61, WTNH, market quality changes

JoAnn Nesti returned to her post last night on NBC30. Someone on the board previously said she was being temporarily replaced by Lisa Carberg due to low ratings. Is this going to be a permanent shifting back and forth? I think JoAnn does a fine job, and she's been an icon in the market for as long as I can remember. There is a new meteorologist, John DiPasquale, who seems to be warming up well after already a few weeks at station.

FOX61 Weekend anchor Rick Hancock recently left for a job as the Dean of Communications/Broadcasting at Quinnipiac University. His replacement seemed to do a pretty good job Sunday night. Anyone know where he's from?

On to NewsChannel 8. There was a reason Darren Kramer didn't have his contract renewed in Chicago. And I'm amazed that Ted Koppey, only being in New Haven so shortly, was promoted to the evening newscasts.

I find it amazing that so many former personalities return to this market. Darren Kramer, Bob Wilson, Tom Lewis, etc. Why do Connecticut stations take these people back over and over again? They should be holding out for more quality. I'm sure these guys are nice people.

But there's an astonishing void in the Hartford-New Haven market of serious, professional anchor teams like one saw in years past. Don Lark, Van Hackett, Pat Sheehan, Diane Smith, Beth Carroll, and Mark Davis in the anchor chairs are a few good ones that come to mind quickly.

Today watching some of the anchors chitchat on air is like watching frat boys talk about their weekends. And then there are reporters out in the field who look like they were pulled off the street and handed a microphone, some of them who speak like they learned English yesterday. I won't even try to write about some of the weather personalities at WFSB, WTNH or WTIC.

There's a total lack of professionalism in many cases. Maybe it's a sign of the times, but I think it's all just terrible. Anyone else agree?

When I was in CT over the Christmas holiday I noticed that Shelly Sindland is still a reporter for FOX 61 news. I remember her starting out at FOX 61 back in the mid-90's. Has she been there all this time continuously? I'm surprised she has not found a better job by now, either another station or another market.

Sometimes reporters will stay at an average station due to outside circumstances.
(Marriage, the spouse has a good job as well, kids are in school, etc...)
Or they just are real happy where they are.
