NBC5 Finalizes Plans for New Fort Worth Studios

Wonder how much of the technical infrastructure will be brand new and how much is moved from the existing studios? Moving a station is a much bigger headache than building one from scratch. But good for them on the new facility, smack in the middle of DFW.

Right on top of what used to be the runways of the former Greater Southwest Airport.

Seems you can still see the outlines of the old runways on the satellite image in the KXAS story.

Good place for it.

Noooooo! Channel 5 must stay on Broadcast Hill FOREVER!!!!!

I meant that as an indication that the post should be on the Texas TV board, not the actual physical move.

well done, Chuck...
THAT was the point of the post.

So 5 and 11 are the Fort Worth stations and 4 and 8 are the Dallas stations?

Always listen/watch their hourly id. The city of license follows the calls after which you can add any city.... KPLX, WBAP, Q-102 all Ft. Worth, etc....

My company is the civil engineer for this project and works for KDC and Corgan. Nice to see that site get some pub.

You don't happen to know when any drawings/mockups/models will be released regarding the design of the new complex, do you?

It should be in the next couple of months or so and they'll be set loose to start constructing it. I would say they'll start moving dirt in the next month or so. Sorry, once it's approved by the City, we won't hear anymore about it.

Why are they moving?  I have seen the current facility from satellite
shots and it looks usable to me.  BTW, is that their XMTR just behind
the building? (Near the expressway-30)

Prolly to consolidate two broadcast facilities into one. They own the Channel 39 KXTX-Telemundo in Dallas near the tollway.
So in the long run its going to save money on energy costs. The newer buildings will be way more energy efficient than what they have now.

It is the old TV tower; not sure if it is the original from 1948, or if there is still an on-site transmitter. KXAS has broadcast from the Cedar Hill tower farm for many decades.
