NBC's American Gladiator on MTV

How is MTV aloud to show reruns of American Gladiator which NBC airs? As both MTV and NBC aren't owned by the same company. But MTV has done this before as some teen show ABC had for one season didn't do well in it's time slot so MTV aired the show.

As for other networks. Recently CBS Sports golf coverage which I guess was tape aired on ESPN.

At first glance, I thought it was some sort of Real World/other reality show crossover deal. I think they are showing a marathon of American Gladiators because of the Fourth of July weekend. I've noticed lots of marathons on other channels going on this weekend.

While on the subject of MTV, why is FNMTV basically a more annoying version of TRL with a new name? I thought maybe that they would actually run the videos and the live performances without any distractions or cut-offs. Sadly, I was wrong.

After the CBS/Viacom split, Viacom retained control of the MTV Networks while CBS kept Showtime.

Since Viacom is no longer part of CBS, they can (and obviously do) contract out with some of the other networks for additional programming (hence ABC News on MTV-U)

I believe you're thinking of "My So-Called Life". From what I remember, it did moderately well on MTV.

Im just like why does MTV need to air shows from another channel as they have enough of shows to fill the spot with. Next, Real World, Road Rules, Tila, etc.

MTV is still popular with the teens and early 20 crowd. Even that they don't play much music. But they do have a new thing when music is played on one of the shows say "The Real World". Theirs a graphic at the bottom of the screen and it tells you the name of the song.

I think I can one up the Gladiators reruns. Last night while I was flipping around I saw Spongebob Squarepants on MTV at about 1aE/10pPacific. Wow, thats something that would never even cross my mind as a show that belongs on there.

I'll refer you to my previous comment :)

I worked production for the initial return of American Gladiators. Wow, did they ever slant that thing! It's a hook and deserves MTV.

MTV stopped being viable when Jackass ran its course and when videos were for all intents and purposes discontinued in favor of "regular" programming.
