NBC's Detroit Station WDIV Passed on "Mockingbird Lane"

Well, I don't know why they've done it because They have really wasted themselves by showing their own halloween special and a Jeopardy rerun. A night has really ruined in Detroit-Where their beloved Tigers are playing in The World Series-and they're down 2-0. Anyway, I hope "Mockingbird Lane" gets picked up after the one-time-only special airing...

It's Friday night, 10 days to go before an election. You can run network programming and get maybe 5 minutes of local avails in the hour to sell, or you can run something local and pack it chock-full of political ads. Doesn't take a brain surgeon...

And they're doing the same thing tomorrow night, pre-empting NBC's 'White Flag Saturday Night' rerun block with No Way Out, a 1987 Kevin Costner film I don't think Kevin Costner even remembers (remember the Cold War kids?). And they can pack in every political ad their heart desires.

Besides that, WDIV knows the people who really want to check it out will probably Hulu it anyways, and it's highly likely the scheduling was done weeks before when they thought Community and Whitney would be on instead of that.

Also, WDIV pre-empts a lot of things. They and their Houston station as we've said many times here don't care about NBC's late night post Fallon/SNL and completely ignore it all, and hate poker. So this is par for the course for them, but at least they get their community programming requirements filled in somehow with the local Halloween show.

KARE in the Twin Cities did something similar tonight, but it carried Mockingbird Lane. It was Grimm that got the bumped to the night treatment, in favor of a local entertaiment special.

Apparently, KPRC plans to show a an election day special that centers around the candidates and their run in the office-which is primarily on the local and state front. Tonight's special will replace a rerun of the popular new NBC Sci-Fi drama "Revolution", Not to be confused with ABC's cancelled daytime show, "The Revolution". KPRC is own by the same company that owns WDIV, which are both afilliated with NBC.

Hey! That was one of Costner's best flicks. Sure, it's an oldie (1987, I think, which is ancient by today's TV standards). But it's a pretty good political thriller with one of the best twist endings ever.

Sounds like a desperate revenue move to me.

WDIV often pre-empts network programming for local shows tied to holidays.

They have many local sponsors and make more from these specials than the network show.

My wife and I watched, and enjoyed, the WDIV special. I doubt we're alone on that in this market.

they can get away with pre-empting a show on the 2nd lowest viewed night of the week

I do too. I almost missed it but while it was on I was watching a taped episode of "30 Rock" and saw the commercial. It wasn't too late to see most of it and, while I didn't care for the violence or the evil tone, the comedy style was so appealing.

I'd rather see the entire original series instead but I don't have the money.
