NBC's Dick Ebersol Dubs Conan "An Astounding Failure" And "Gutless"!

Re: NBC's Dick Ebersol Dubs Conan "An Astounding Failure" And "Gutless"!

Bring back Carson---who cares if he's dead? Wink

Yeah, maybe "The Best of Carson" would beat them all!

If you get Reelz channel, watch "Carson's Comedy Classics"
(noon-1, repeats 4-5 PM Eastern). Even when the humor is
lame (as it often is), Johnny's Jack Benny-type reactions always
save a bit. There's plenty of Carnack, Art Fern, Aunt Blabby,
Floyd R. Turbo American, and Joan Embery with her animals
(they showed the marmoset relieving itself on Carson's head
the other day). Watching that show will remind you that Carson
was--and always will be--the standard by which late-night talk-show
hosts are measured. Maybe NBC should get the rights to that show. :)

What forced NBC to make a change was the threat of an open revolt by affiliates who had lost a quarter of their 25-54 audience for their late local news. It was clear some of them were going to jettison or move Leno's show so they could start their local news at 10pm eastern. That would have significantly hurt NBC's ability to sell ads on Leno's program.

This makes NBC look especially bad up against its Boston affiliate WHDH. WHDH knew what it was doing when it threatened to not even show Leno's show from the start.

That will for sure attract the 18-49 demo ;D

Hey Dick: The XFL.

The old man certainly know something about betting on the wrong guys.

Phil Mushnick must read this board. This week, the New York Post columnist wrote:

One would think that after selling NBC on the XFL — the greatest primetime embarrassment in TV history — and just days after assigning Joe Theismann to try to destroy a Jets’ playoff game, NBC Sports boss Dick Ebersol would twice bite his tongue before calling Conan O’Brien “an astounding failure.”
