NBC's Nashville Star

Now that I've got your attention ... :p

Has anyone else noticed at the end of Nashville Star on NBC, that host Billy Ray Cyrus sounds like he's saying, "For Katie Couric, I'm Billy Ray Cyrus, good night?"

His co-host for the program is Katie Cook of CMT.

Aside from this little nit, I think Nashville Star is a terrible production. Decent idea, but I think they try too hard to build drama. And, to top things off, I don't think there will be a country star come out of the show ... yet again. (In five seasons on USA, the show has produced no more than five top ten hits.)

Well, that's a top ten each season, so that's not saying too bad about the show, since they're looking for the Nashville "Star" and not "Stars". And, you can knock the "three chords kuntry" all you want, but it's a lot tougher to produce a hit artist with Country than you can with "one hit wonder" Pop. I HATE Country, but can appreciate its folk roots. It's a tight niche that's hard to tap.

As far as Billy Ray is concerned, the one and only one time I watched the show, it really didn't look like he was happy to be there. As Seacrest is all poppy and giddy when he signs off, or at least has some display of energy, Billy Ray looked like he wanted to be shot. One of the problems, I noticed, is that he's either got to get his contact prescription checked, or he needs glasses... period. It looked like a "I can barely read the teleprompter" moment.

I saw this program a couple of times at my gym. I thought I was the only one that noticed that. But then again, hosting "American Idol" was a step UP for Seacrest, while this show means less "stature" for Cyrus.

For the record, our the board moderating staff felt the urge to modify my topic title because they felt it was misleading. So that my original post makes sense, I think I should note that the title was originally "Katie Couric returns to NBC?".
