NBC's The West Wing: ***SPOILER ALERT***

Presidential candidate Senator Matt Santos (Jimmy Smits) won the election by a mere 30,000 votes. The electoral college came down to the state of Nevada before Santos was awarded the win over Senator Vinick (Alan Alda).

This episode also addressed the death of the late John Spencer (Santos's vice-presidential running mate, Leo McGarry). Spencer died late last year of a heart attack. His death was incorporated into the show.

Next week's episode centers on Leo's funeral.

This is the final season for The West Wing.
Edited by WMC2005 on 04/10/06 01:13 AM.

This episode also included a cameo appearance by Pensacola, Florida's own Punk Rock Prince Gus Brandt. Gus, who is the real life tour manager of the Foo Fighters, was seen walking on stage to tell Dave Grohl to wrap up the song for Santos to make the announcement of McGarry's death.
Hey, it made the front page of the Pensacola News Journal this morning!

This was one the West Wing's best episodes in years. A real nail-biter right down to the end. It is a shame that the show will end this season because it would have been interesting to see what direction the West Wing would have gone with Jimmy Smits as the lead. I'm sure some of the regulars from the West Wing, Josh, Donna, and a few others would have been included in the cast.
As for next week's episode featuring the funeral of Leo, that will be a tear-jerkers for sure. Finally with regards to the final episode, IMHO I wouldn't be surprised if President-elect Matt Santos offers the Vice Presidency to Arnold Vinnik.

My bet is on Sam Seaborn, White House deputy communications director from past seasons. This was Rob Lowe's character; and it's already been noted (even before Spencer's death) that he will return for the last couple of episodes.
