NBCU trying to force Peacock subscriptions on cable providers

There are reports, confirmed by YouTube TV, that NBCUniversal is trying to juice its Peacock subscriber base by forcing its cable provider partners to pay for Peacock Premium in order to carry the other NBCUniversal properties on traditional cable. It does not appear that any major cable operators have bit on this yet, although Xfinity (Comcast) TV customers have an included Peacock subscription.

Also, mega kudos to YouTube TV for saying they will reduce the subscription cost if the NBCUniversal deal falls through at the end of the month.

YouTube TV really has no choice. The content providers are putting the squeeze on the aggregators and there's little that can be done to stop them. YouTube TV has already lost a lot of attractive regional sports networks, and losing NBCUniversal and its networks would be a huge blow. YouTube and its parent, Google, create virtually nothing, choosing to sit back and profit off the content others produce, and that may prove their undoing in the television game.

Comcast is hyping up this device. I can see the current dispute with YouTube tv as a ploy for NBC to hype up Xione and boost attention to Peacock.

Also Comcast was trying to hype up the "Xclass TV's" as a ploy to boost Peacock.

That's right some of the moves here is Comcast is trying to use the Apple playbook of the past decade whenever they hype up stuff like Macs, IOS devices and TV's. Some of this is Comcast going after Android TV, Amazon TV, Roku TV and Apple TVos as part of a move to go after other streaming hardware devices.

Comcast is responding to their rival for the Streaming TV market.

It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out longer-term for sure. As I think was mentioned in another post above, Comcast customers currently get complimentary access to Peacock Premium (which is how we watched a lot of Olympics coverage after it had aired) and when one accesses on demand movie and TV shows through the X1 cable box, a lot of the content there not only comes from Comcast, but from Peacock, Tubi and other providers. I haven't checked the offering of older episodes from networks like HGTV via Comcast on-demand recently, since Discovery+ has been pushed so hard and heavily advertised over the past few months.
