NBS Radio Network Kaleidoscope

Sorry to see the original thread is closed because it’s been two years since anyone commented (https://www.radiodiscussions.com/threads/anyone-remember-nbs-communications-kaleidoscope.592115/) though the comments were spread out over 10 years.

Anyway, yes I was one of the “suckers” who paid $15 (?) a week to do a short segment on Kaleidoscope. But here is the kicker and why I stuck around for a while. The Philadelphia sports teams, especially, but not limited to the Phillies, would give me a press pass. So, I’m a high school senior sitting in the press box (sat next to Jim O’Brien once, great guy, big thrill for me) and doing locker room interviews. Larry Shenk of the Phillies was always nice to me, so the fact the Philly sports teams treated this acne-faced kid as a legit member of the media was really the highlight.

This was ’82-’83. In about ’86 I got a job as a scorephone announcer with Dial Sports and wound up working with two of the “program directors” I knew from NBS, Don Agriss and Pete Tombrauskas (I hope the spelling is closer to correct). In fact, I wonder if in the afore linked to thread, the Dave Williams was the same guy I worked with at Dial Sports as well.

Though I moved from the DelVal in ’88, I’m lucky to have my parents still at the same house in Marlton. When my family has returned to my stomping grounds over the years, we love to go to Center City and I’ve organically passed 1510 Chestnut Street a few times. I sorta peek into the glass and smile.

Kaleidoscope used to be broadcast during the overnights on WOND, Pleasantville, NJ. I was a kid then (late 70s/early-80s) and wondered who all those folks were.
