Instead of making a new thread, I thought this one could also serve as one for comments on CBS' tourney coverage.

I must say that I'm not very impressed with James Brown as a play-by-play guy. He sounds extremely stilted and not fluid at all, trying to pronounce every word as clearly as possible. Just wanted to throw that out there.

He's still better at calling hoops than his replacement , Curt Menafee is at hosting the NFL pre game show......I'd say by saturday at the latest, he ll be in his top form. This gig is one reason he left FOX to return to CBS, where he did college hoops, NFL play by play and did them well.. No doubt he's also being groomed for an incarnation of "the morning show". No worries.....unless youre FOX and you are STILL wondering how to replace the chasm created there when he left their NFL coverage....

From the little bit I saw from JB (the one game I saw was the Indiana-Gonzaga match-up from Sacramento), I wasn't entirely impressed either...he just seemed out of his element. I know he's done basketball play-by-play before (the old Washington Bullets, some CBS NBA games), but the rust showed last night. They switched JB with Greg Gumbel, it probably would have been better, and at least Gumbel has done play-by-play more recently.

I agree. From what I read Gumbel insisted that he wanted to do NFL play-by-play because he wasn't fond of studio work, so essentially, his move to the booth (plus Jim Nantz') was the reason they hired Brown for the studio show in the first place! I think JB would be a better fit there and then have Greg in the booth for the tournament.
