NCX mornings

What is going on there? Is Slats still there? Does he do anything besides hit buttons? I hear zero personality on that show when I tune in. Nothing funny, nothing interesting, nothing at all. Just some tunes. What are they thinking?

You did see who is doing fill in work at WNCX now right? Jeff Kinzbach. Don't be surprised if in the next few months we see a reunion of Jeff/Flash in the mornings on WNCX.

Probably not since they both have good paying jobs. Flash works for Cuyahoga County and Jeff is self employed. It's best to have them in small doses anyway.

Not sure what Torq is talking about, I'm usually tuned in between 7am and 8am, always hear Slats doing some kind of skit, lately he's been milking the DiMora trial for all its worth. Clearly WNCX wants to focus on the music (not a bad idea IMO) and have Slats mix in quick comedic bits. I thought he was a bit rough at first but to me it seems he is now settling in nicely.

Honestly going back to Jeff and Flash would be the biggest example of old Cleveland stars never dying that we've seen to date. Its one thing for V1073 to dust off Ravenna Micelli and Rocco....but even thinking about trying to resurrect the old Buzzard Morning Zoo after a 20 year hiatus?? Speechless.

Probably the only station that a revived Jeff and Flash show would work would be WNCX, whose core audience of Zepplin and Floyd freaks remember them well.

Cleveland is known as a town that likes to listen to old timers and can't seem to let them go. As I said don't be surprised if Jeff/Flash return. If Michael Stanley were to decide to bow out at some point they slide Slats to afternoons and put Jeff/Flash in the AM.

I also think Cleveland adults appreciate people who put down roots in Cleveland, as opposed to the many folks on radio and TV who pass through here on their way to a bigger market.

How did that work out? ;D

Jeff and Flash's biggest accomplishment at WMMS came at the end when they helped propel Howard Stern's syndication from 5 markets to 40+. Seriously, they were mailing it in at the end and " Token Jokes of the Morning " was tired. Stern had their audiece in less than a year's time.

Jeff and Flash did 80s style radio in the 90s. These guys have no clue how radio works now.
Intertwining the high tech systems today ( internet, social media, podcasts, etc ) is something that is totally foreign to them.

I would not be surpised if WNCX made a colossal blunder and did retread radio in AM drive with a reunited Jeff and Flash. Broadcasters do stupid things often. ( Remember when Mel would not allow his stations to stream audio in the early 2000s ? ).
CBS would have to " learn the hard way " and eventaully add this experiment to the list of failed morning shows on 98.5 since Stern left for Sirius.

Slats on mornings is a good move.
If they jettison that for a Jeff and Flash reunion, you have to question the intelligence of the
management at that company.

Remember too that classic rock music from the 70s and 80s is appealing to today's 25-35 year olds. And they were 5-10 years old when Jeff and Flash left radio.

Kinzbach is on all next week. I like Jeff and think he was good in his time but I am noticing more and more people on facebook and other social utilities starting to push for a Jeff/Flash on WNCX in the morning with the Token Jokes again. You can all laugh at me all you want but I am predicting they return sooner not later.

I think small doses are the best. Keep the listeners wanting more, but don't give them Jeff and Flash overload.

There will be a good many people over 45 listening next week to relive old times. I will be one of them, but I will not expect this to be more than temporary.

Ya know something....Jeff does sound good on the air, and WNCX is a perfect place for him. I know most people are tired of retreads, but in this case, I'd get it if he stuck around. He's a legendary personality in Cleveland that people fondly talk about 20 years after he left WMMS. Ever hear anybody say a bad word about him? Listen to how Jeff weaves his content around the music. There's a concept! A personality who CARES about the music he/she is playing.

I would actually have no problem with Jeff Kinzbach coming back. That is why I said don't be surprised if he does. Jeff is a good guy and many have mentioned that Jeff/Flash would fit in perfect on WNCX. Slats could slide over to afternoons. I would not be heartbroken if Michael Stanley were let go because while I do enjoy some of his music as an on air personality there is zero charisma. I would also like to see Matt Patrick return to Cleveland or Akron in some capacity. I am as big of a fan of new blood in the market but some air personalities from the past are definitely worth bringing back in the right circumstances.

Jeff also seems to care about his audience. In the limited contact I've had with him I see he's not full of himself.

Flash joined Jeff this morning from 8-10 for a Jeff and Flash reunion. They mainly took calls from overexcited listeners, and spent some time walking down memory lane.

The Jeff/Flash reunion is going to happen eventually. This is the perfect audience for them. I believe Slats will be moved to afternoons and Michael Stanley will probably retire.

The only way Flash goes back to full-time AMD radio is if he no longer wants to do the "America's Workforce" AFL-CIO infomercial...err...afternoon drive show on WERE 1490.

Flash has actually been doing that show 10+ years I do believe.

To do a show like that, he's obviously not in it for the ratings, but to get the union/labor message out (which he obviously feels strongly about).

At the end of the day, do Jeff and Flash want to at this point in their lives get back in the grind of AMD, or are they happier just doing fill-in/weekend work (Jeff) and personal pet projects (Flash)

It would make for an interesting pairing again. Jeff tends to lean conservative and Flash leans liberal. the America's workforce show originally started with Bob Becker I believe many years ago on WERE.
