Neal Boortz announces retirement

Wow!

This is news. I'm surprised he's hanging it up but wish him the best.

This will leave a void to be competed for on many stations.

An opportunity for this business to boost the economy and create at least two local jobs per market. Host and producer....*snicker*...

I'm sorry...I couldn't resist.

He'll be replaced by another syndicated boor who'll attempt to become the next LimbaughHannitySavage...and even if he or she were to the left...I won't listen either.

How about someone who challenges not only BOTH sides of the aisle, but the forgotten folks inbetween ( and I mean beyond the Ron Paul and the Foil Hat Faction)?

How about somebody who is entertaining when they talk about anything, because they actually have an engaging personality and don't dwell on politics and partisan BS all the time?

Imagine: Someone who can make conversation interesting, irrespective to whether they're talking about politics or any controversial issue, without having to take the same predictable stance all the time? You know, the way MOST Americans actually think!

From the standpoint of retaining Boortz's affiliates, passing the show to Herman Cain is probably a good move. He is well known across the country and has been a regular Boortz fill-in. If he's able to maintain Boortz's relative position among the Top 10 syndicated talks shows, he will remain. If not he'll be replaced. If that happens it will be easier for a lesser known host to replace Cain at that time than to try to fill Boortz's shoes in January.

It's not that simple. The dial is loaded with mediocre "talent" who should be replaced but haven't been. They know the conservative talking points, and that's good enough for the suits...

Regardless of what you may think of Boortz, it's amazing that we have yet another non-broadcaster sliding into SYNDICATION, no less!

Cain will join a very long list of example after example of how the decision makers in radio are clueless about what a special skill being a good host is, and how long it takes to become polished at that.

As if we needed another demonstration of the contempt had for the talent in this biz, enter Herman Cain.

I like Herman Cain, but I hope he's boned up on more topics. During his campaign he seemed well versed on economic issues, but struggled with knowledge about foreign policy and some other issues.
