Ned Beatty Has Died At 83

Beatty was a Top Shelf character actor. His presence always made the films better. His performance in "Network" was excellent. "Deliverance" was a great film. Unfortunately, some folks only remember the one grim sequence.

Beatty had many memorable roles in Film and TV. He was Gene Hackman's sidekick in the Superman films...

From what I recall, Beatty did not have an easy time with the infamous "Squeal like pig" scene in Deliverance and didn't speak to anyone on set for a long while both before and after it was filmed. My favorite memories of him were in Silver Streak as the vitamin salesman/FBI agent opposite Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, a small but memorable role in The Toy with Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason, Hopscotch with Walther Matthieu, and Stroker Ace with Bert Reynolds. Also his part in Rudy which was a feel good movie, but was almost completely fabricated vs the real life Rudy where they more or less put the guy over the goal line as a joke.
