You'd think that, since I've been collecting Barbie dolls since the 1980s, that I would have written down the date that a Barbie-related cartoon aired. Stupid me didn't do it. There is no mention of this program at the IMDb.
Some background:
The second series of the Barbie and the Rockers dolls were sold in 1987: Barbie, Ken, Diva, DeeDee, Dana and Derek.
Barbie's new band in 1988 was the Sensations: Barbie, Becky, Bopsy and Belinda.
In the summer of 1988 or 1989, the Fox network aired a cartoon that was actually two parts. The first half was about Barbie and the Rockers in outer space, called Out of this World. The second half was about the Sensations and was called Rockin' Back to Earth. It was shown only this one time, and as far as I know, has not been seen on TV since. These segments were released individually on VHS by Hi-Tops Video in 1990. Yes, I have the VHS tapes, but there is no mention of the original air date.
Do any of you have a way to look up when the cartoon aired? Obviously it would have been from 8 to 9 p.m. When I do a Google search, there are some details about it being a pilot for animated series in 1987. It may have been a pilot, but the 1987 date was when the songs were written. Since the Sensations weren't sold until 1988 there's no way it could have aired the year before.
I belong to a number of Barbie discussion groups on the Internet, but I doubt that asking at any of them would be helpful. At the risk of sounding like I am both bragging and completely obsessed, I'm the one who can answer people's trivia questions. If I don't know it, then nobody else does, either!
