Need Help Setting Up Streaming

I am trying to stream audio using my home computer as the "server." I have Windows Media Encoder 9 and a Verizon DSL. I set up the encoder and it lists the URL addy and port I'm sending on. My a "listener" tries to access the stream entering the URL in their media Player they get message that says "stream not available." I am using the mode wher the listener computer has to initiate access to my stream..not the "push" method.
I have a hunch that he Verizon DSL Firewall may be the problem. Any thoughts??

Ideally, you should have a "static" IP address. You will need to enable the port you are using within your router. That port number should be tied to the encoding computer's network address. This opens a pathway to the web.

It's simpler than that. There is no router. It's just my PC running Windows Media encoder. I am encoding live audio and A friend is trying to access my PC from his to listen to it. I use Verizon DSL.
I gave my buddy the IP number and port number that came up in the encoder, but he can't get in.

better off to use shoutcast with aac+, great sound and easy to set up. IMHO.
