Need help with a song title/artist

I am trying to find the title of a country song from the mid-90s. The singer is a guy, and the lyrics are about a father who's to busy to play catch, or go to his son's baseball games. Then when the son grows up, and the Dad calls him, the son is too busy to spend time with the Dad.

The lyrics/story are a lot like "Cat's In the Cradle," but the caller who requested the song said that wasn't right. Does anyone know the title or artist?

Thanks for any help!

I believe Ricky Skaggs did a country version of it in the early-mid 90's

John Anderson - Wish I could've been there for that. Give that one a listen. I think it's what you're looking for.

According to my sources (google) found that Ricky Skaggs did Cat in the Cradle in 1995, as well as Rex Allen Jr (1981) and Johnny Cash (?) plus a early 90's rock band called Ugly Kid Joe. But I think the Skaggs version actually got some airplay in the mid 1990's (1996) cause it was his "comeback"

Yep, that's the one! Thanks for your help. :)

I don't have my book with non top 40 info, anymore, but as I recall, didn't Skaggs' version reach the mid 40's? I'm thinking Rex Allen's may have just missed the top 40, too. I actually remember hearing his version on the radio more than Skaggs'.
