need input on AM/FM/cassette CD player recorder!!

Hi y'all: I need to purchase a cassette recorder ASAP. But it's needed only on very infrequent occasions; therefore I'd rather pay more $$ and purchase a combo AM/FM cassette player/RECORDER or something with additional features like CD. Forget MP 3's; I just gave away my Am/FM/ 8 track combo earlier this year! I'm not a retro geek-just need something decent with a cassette recorder built in.

But for features I'd like a sensitive AM radio (for occasional DX ing and listening to ball games at the lake), a decent FM tuner... I will pay for quality but I like a bargain .

Anyone have any input on this? I would like to purchase this item new and soon. Thanks, Vibe.

(I should change my screen name from Vibe-great car, to Vic another great car that Ford made until 2008.-but that's way off topic here.)

I have a boom box style portable with a cassette recorder, CD player and digital style tuner I got at K-Mart for less than $100.00 a couple of years ago, Its a Sony Xplod with a super power woofer switch, this doesn't have a mic input though, does have an auxiliary hoop up.
I use mine for my computer sound.

Are you looking for a boombox? As mentioned before, anything with any kind of quality is hard to find these days, especially with cassette recorders. The last quality one I bought was a Panasonic RX-FS430A. I bought it about 10 years ago and still use it today. It has great AM reception and great FM reception (even with the antenna all the way down). The cassette recorder and player also sound great. The only negative is that FM reception is overloaded if you are within a mile or two of a strong FM tower. I used to live within eyesight of a 100kw tower and it had overload problems. However, now I'm 5 miles away from the nearest 100kw tower and there is no problem what-so-ever! In fact, I can even pick up an adjacent signal that's over 100 miles away.

Now keep in mind, this unit does not have a CD player, but what I have found within the last 10 years or so is that the units that have CD players built-in, skimp very badly on the cassette player. Most have bad quality. Good luck on your search.

My only guess is, try the Jack Berg Sales (jackbergsales.com), flea markets and Ebay if you can't find new.

Try Thrift Stores or Goodwill

The Shipping on Ebay is expensive

All good ideas-thanks-will hit sallie in the AM (Salvation Army).

Me four! LOL Buy from thrift stores or flea markets. They'll likely have an AM/FM/Tape Recorder there. But I have NOT seen a GE Superadio II or III when digging through the thrift stores, man I really want one!

I did see a GE Superadio Ii at a flea market 4 years ago and I grabbed it! Whoever got rid of it must not be a Dxer. I have not see such radio at flea markets, thrift shops, Goodwills ever since.
