Hey All,
I'm not tech genius like a lot of you, and I need help selecting and ISDN transceiver.
I'm going independent in the months to follow.
A basic system for VO usage/transmission is the purpose for the ISDN.
Can anyone help as far as the most appropriate system for my needs, and maybe the right place(s) to look... maybe even 2nd-hand market. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!

Matt..the Telos Zephyr is one of the most accepted and compatable. You can sometimes find a used one for sale through Bay County Broadcast Supply..sometimes Ebay has them.

There is one black face zephyr for sale now on Ebay for a 4000.00 Buy It now price..ABSURD! You can get a new one through Harris for like 3500. I sold my black face box 6 months ago on Ebay for 2250. The silver face (Extreme) unit is the one Telos is selling these days. It seems bulletproof and is the one we have currently.

There IS this one..that looks to be exactly what would work for you. It doesn't support Layer III but most all sessions I do with pro based studios prefer and use Layer II that this one does. The seller says he paid 1600 for it..so you could high bid at around 1200 and probably get it.

The COMREX line is also good as is MUSICAM brands. You need to have one that will encode/decode in MPEG Layer III..and one that will allow transmit and recieve in MPEG Layer II at 128kbps. Those are the two most widely used formats.

If you see one for sale and you'd like me to look it over before you buy it. send me the particulars. Remember you will have to order and get installed a 2BRI ISDN line. (Some telcos stopped installing and selling this service so check with your provider before you spend $$ on a codec. Some markets in Florida will no longer support ISDN)

Wow! Thanks Jeff, for all the helpful info. You gave me a great jumping off point.
And good call on the telcos. I'm not too worried though, as I'll be in metro NYC. Verizon. But ya never know.
Thanks again, Jeff!
Btw, anyone have any reviews on SourceConnect? I hear this is a viable alternative, but each has it's own pros and cons.
Lemme know when ya'all get a chance.
Thanks everybody for the help. =)
Matt
