Need some towers? 4 tower 1370 KLBA Albia deleted

While its newer KLBA FM counterpart chugs away happily as Ma and Pa radio
at 96.7 (and they don't get much more Ma and Pa than KLBA), NorthPine.com
reports KLBA 1370 in Albia was deleted by the FCC. It hadn't been on
the air for several years. Tough choice...fix the 4 tower DA that no one
is listening to, or turn in the license. Meanwhile, there might four,
28 year old, 150'+ galvanized towers for sale soon.

That leaves KMJM, 1360 in Cedar Rapids, with the most complex DA for
class D stations (former daytimers) in Iowa, with four towers. Other
contenders, KWOF 850 in Waterloo, 3 towers, and 1150 KCPS Burlington,
also 3 towers.

It's been deleted for a long time...lol...not just recently. And they messed around and almost missed getting their FM refiled this spring.

I think the most complex DA in Iowa would be 1020 KOIL. I know it's licensed to Plattsmouth NE, but the towers are southeast of Council Bluffs. Four towers days with 50kw, six towers at night for 1400 watts.

I suppose equally complex, but with lower power, is 1170 in Davenport.. four towers days, six at night, 1000 watts fulltime. But those towers are in Illinois!

Of course, you could add to that list the former KIOA at 940,
KPSZ Des Moines, with its 6 towers SE of Hartford. However, a
four tower DA for a 500 watt daytimer doesn't seem very common
around these parts.

There are a few student non-comms that are sporting D calls for deleted
license when FM query is run at fcc.gov*: KDPS Des Moines, KCUI Pella
and KDIC Grinnell. Apparently the FCC housekeeping on all of these
happened on 6/24. Would think the FMs will be getting things corrected
shortly, but KLBA-AM is likely history.

type DKDPS, or do a general search for all DM freqs.

Quite a few years ago (maybe in the late 80s?) , they had a CP to go to 50kw days, but it was never built. I don't recall what type of DA was required.

Yes, it's a little different for the station on 1090 in Detroit... 4 towers days for 250 watts, 6 at night for 500 watts... but that weird little signal still covers a lot of population.

Joining 1290 in Anamosa, and 1580 in Davenport.

That's also the case for KNEI-AM in Waukon. Are they gone?

No, at least not as of my last bandscan.

KVIK was also deleted. These are probably all a result of a fee not being filed correctly, or some other paperwork error that will likely be resolved.

Except for KLBA, of course, since they've been silent for years.

KDPS is not on there because they had a problem with filing their renewal.. see a post earlier today... it explains why
