I've been thinking. I need to change my image. Re-invent myself. New name ,new wardrobe,new style.Many of you know the bizz inside and out.Can ya help me out ? A new "on air" name could be a start. I want to change the image.

A nicer sweeter Gerry V. Kind and understanding. The on air personna you folks could respect and reach out to. Is this a good idea or should I just remain as I am ? Just keep rolling along as your favorite mental midget ? I just don't enjoy asking some callers if their family tree has any branches on it. Thats mean.I know i'm a creative wonder king but its time to shed that robe.

So will ya help a guy out ? I need a new name and image.....I know you'll be there for me. For those of you that don't want to help you can make use of THE MISTLE TOE ON MY SHIRT TAIL ! "

Just wondering why you are waisting your time here? I have heard you on Hornets games. You arent as bad as they say.....Now please try not to let your head explode over that ;D
 
Gerry, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You have a unique and fun "maverick" identity that draws listeners to you. You're the present day Scooter Segraves with his oddball but fun sense of humor!!

But if you're really serious, consult with Mr. Annie Holt, who knows everything about everything, and will tell you that he does, and yet has been nothing but a career station babysitter. Have a couple of drinks with him and you'll find out how much he doesn't know. I'd love to but he's afraid to sit down with me one-on-one. But to paraphrase how "quitnow" put it (nice name, A.H.), "I'm the Program Director and you do it my way or be fired." Helluva attitude. But that's how bullies with paper titles cover up for their lack of balls and brains. Intimidation. But get these programming eunichs alone for a 1-on-1 and you'll be surprised how stupid they are.

Typical of the cancer of terrestrial radio.

Stay as you are Gerry. You've got an identity and it works. And its fun. Have confidence in yourself, your image, and what you've accomplished.

By the way, my invitation is open anytime for you, quitnow, whenever you want to come out of your rat hole.
 
no name change or image re do will remove the out of control ego that is one of the reasons I prefer not to listen to you. Im sure your a good guy to have a beer with (maybe not) but seriously...sports talk radio isn't brain surgery...how bout starting with knowing how to NOT come across as a ESPN clone who thinks the story is Gerry V and not the sports
 
Most sportscasters are a dime a dozen and most are boring and forgotten five minutes after they finish their reports. Like the jackasses broadcasting the CWS in Omaha. Worse than vanilla and boring.

Gerry is fun to listen to because he's got balls and a wry sense of humor. Once the information is given it's the personality and delivery of the sportscaster who sets one apart from the other. These are the people who develop a fan base and people remember them, like they do with Gerry V. Do you remember the bland Frank Gifford? But you *do* remember his sidekick Howard Cosell. If you're old enough.

Li'l Larry you need to go listen to Kaaaaaaaaaaaare. But if you've ever been on the mike you have to consider why no one remembers Li'l Larry. Take a lesson from an established personality like Gerry V, who is on the right track.
 
Lillarry is right. Thanks for the kind words guys but he's right. Doing NBA games and talking politics and sports whatever on the talk show has just exposed me for what i am . an arrogant pompus guy who finds joy in the " verbal karate" with callers. i realize my tongue is like a ginsu knife. i thought my work was like a picasso but its just a fiasco.

the ole gerry v would tell little larry " your posts are so bad i thought a toilet overflowed" the new gerry v will now simply say " thanks lillarry" " your honesty is well appreciated"

i mean i'm tempted to say " yo lillarry just cause your first prison shower didn't go so well don't take it out on me !" but i won't go there
i want to change. that all.does it hurt that a man is reaching out to his peers.

i just want to seek a lil wisdom from those of you that understand.

Gee Gerry, from what I've read here, if you're that insecure with the image you've built for yourself, then you don't need advice from us here. You're a good personality, but...if you're an insecure dishrag like you present yourself on here and can't make a decision at this stage of your career on how to present yourself and run your show, then you'd be better off selling insurance and letting some hungry college grad take your place. We are not here on this board to feed you pablum and change your diapers. Get balls, make a decision who you are and live with it with confidence, or go away. Dn't bother us with your whining after you asked for advice and it's been given. Do you have any idea how many people could take a job from an insecure announcer and run with it? Have you ever seen the guy who cheerleads the crowd for the Hornets? He's really impressive and in the wings waiting to take your salary away. Get a grip on yourself or go away but don't bother us if you don't like what we say.

One other thing I'd recommend is that you give up your "age-arrested" approach and act like an adult with a good sense of humor instead of a babbbling idiot, if that's what you feel you're doing.

And this is from someone who enjoys listening to you, but you asked for a new "you", so be careful what you pray for. You might get it. I think you're fine as you are, but you asked.

If you like what you're doing but you're looking for a little change, just adjust and model yourself after Mitchell and be an full-time idiot.

Or after Annie Holt who knows it all and has a boyfriend.
 
If, by your own response, you don't "have it" any more, then...

get out the business and quit looking for a shoulder to cry on. Just go. Now.
