Neil Cheyet Last Show Was Last Night

Neil Cheyet, who has done a Sunday call in show on WBZ for 15 years said that last night was his last show. He will still be doing the weekday segments but not the call in show anymore. His show will be missed!

Yeah, it was. :(

LoooooooooKING AT THE LAW: THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET

The dirty little secret of Cheyet's "live talk show" was that it was on TAPE.
If you had a legal question for Cheyet you would have to call the WBZ talk number during the alleged live Sunday program and a producer would take your name and number down and if it was a legal question that Cheyet wanted to talk about he would call you back sometime in the middle of the week.

Almost as bad as the WBZ morning news guy, Gary LaPierre, doing his show from Florida in the winter and not telling the listeners for many years.

And now, you know the rest of the story even though Paul Harvey is no longer with WBZ either.

Actually makes perfect sense. I'd imagine most if not all of the questions asked required at least some research...can't imagine he'd have all that info off the top of his head. Makes you wonder how many phone-in "advice" shows are actually live & taking calls.

Are you still whining about that? It made no difference. Get over it.

This WAS NOT the case at least one time

Maybe it was changed or something, but about 1 yr and a half ago, I called one Sunday night and talked to him, on air....live.

Handel is taped as well. He's on Sunday afternoons, 96.9 from 1-4pm, but you can catch it live on Saturday mornings KFI (via stream).

Is that really such a dirty little secret? I mean, I don't listen to commercial talk radio so maybe it's a different dynamic...but on public radio most of the talk shows are tape-delayed just as you describe. Hell, "Car Talk", the most popular NPR show, is recorded over a three-hour period every Wednesday afternoon; the producers review the voicemail every week and call back whoever they think would be most entertaining to stump the hosts with.

I would imagine the tape-delay also allows Cheyet to have much more intelligent responses to the callers' questions than if it was all done truly live.

It certainly was not the case when I produced his show for a short period of time in the late 90's. We took calls live on the air. For callers he didn't have an instant answer for, he'd do "homework"--he and/or his assistant would look into it during the week & then address & answer the question on the following week's show. Don't know if this was still his practice in recent years, as I haven't listened in awhile.

Neil was a great guy to work for & a great radio personality.

Re: This WAS NOT the case at least one time

He went to a taped show a while ago. He started off live, when he first started doing the program. There have been, in recent months, occasional live broadcasts.

I won't miss his show....and i hope that this was a trend that would sweep up the horrible Bill Handel as well...but i won't hold my breath.....i don't enjoy these "radio" law solutions but i did find Mr. Cheyet much less offensive than Mr. Handel.
