Neil Rogers

Listening to Neil last week, I heard him tell a caller that he was broadcasting from Toronto. How long has Neil been broadcasting from outside of Miami?

He's been live from his Toronto "studio" for years. Maybe three or four? Plus in summer, he only works Tuesday and Thursdays. Sweet, huh?

Yeah. At least a few years.

It's a shame the station that's (to fanatics) in business
to "boost" the Miami teams can't employ one of the many
talented local talkers CC and James Crystal has left
unemployed.

Local talk can't be imitated from afar. (That's why
Todd Schnitt is such a joke.)

Does Neil get the Herald and Sun-Sentinel? I'm sure he
doesn't watch channel 7 News.

But take the Toronto football or baseball or hockey team
and put them in Florida uniforms and no one would know
the difference.
______________

Re: long distance Neil Rogers

The Herald and Sun-Sentinel are available on line - Neil references them quite a bit. With internet and satellite (many of our local TV's can be accessed just about anywhere) it's not too hard to keep up to date locally - from afar.

Why is Schnitt "a joke." Because you don't like him? I'm told he gets good ratings and it's not like he makes it a secret he's live from Tampa. Put him up against Kane, Kaufman, Worthing, you know who'd win.

He certainly had me fooled all these years. He does an extraordinary job acting like he is local. He certainly knows the South Florida market well. Is Rogers actually a Canadian? I do not get the chance to listen to him all that often...

Maybe because they put him in prime drive time and delay
popular syndicated programs.

He acted like he was local because he was on just four
stations and mentioned the markets by name. I think he
has just 2 or 3 now.

Craig Worthing is retired -- and an acquired
taste anyway. I think he appeals mostly to
seniors. Poor comparison.

Steve Kane is a religious right extremist who
appeals to a limited audience. Ridiculous
comparison.

Joyce Kaufman is being grossly misused as a deejay
for WJNA's old-Jack format. Finally they put her
back on WFTL weekend talk, when nobody listens
to general talk.

If Joyce had a daily talk show and James Crystal put
the money and effort into marketing and cross-promotion
that CC spends on Schnitt, she could compete, IMHO. (And,
even though this is radio and it doesn't matter, she's
nicer to look at, FWIW.) Though I think her web site
is a bit too much.

Plus he gets a million plus bucks a year! I think he used to broadcast from Amsterdam sometimes as well. He originally had the whole summer off under his current contract. I guess they came up with some more bucks to get him to make appearances in the summer.

Let me get this straight - you're suggesting that all things equal - signal, marketing, time period, Joyce could compete with Schnitt. You serious, right?

Exactly.

Have you ever listened to her talk shows?
(Not her corny deejaying.)

For at least 5 Years. Amsterdam and Toronto, now I guess only Toronto. He could be Broadcasting from the Moon, he still would be that good!. Sure miss his local TV show on WAMI, Channel 69 in 98/99 before they went Spanish.

Schnitt sucks. But Joyce? Only if this were 1975.

Once again I ask...

Have you ever listened to her talk shows?
(Not her dreary deejaying with corny segues!)

She's now on WFTL sunday afternoons.

Yes, we know. She's just as awful as a "deejay" as she is a "talk host."

Joyce Kaufman is fair and balanced

She's the only liberal talker I know (other than Alan Colmes)
who isn't a virulent Bush hater.

Is that why you dislike her?

I think she's a great talker.

There must be some reason that she's the only WFTL talker
that James Crystal kept.

Well Joyce Kaufman doesn't need me to defend her.
I'm sure she doesn't read this board anyway.

But I'd prefer listening to her her rather than
O'Reilly, Ingraham, Schnitt, Kane, Hendrie, Beck,
Coast to Coast, all of the Air America characters
and NPR bores and most of the Salem folks.... and
maybe even Rush Limbaugh.

I think that covers everyone.
______________

Re: Joyce Kaufman is fair and balanced

Boy, did this thread ever take a turn. The origonal post asked for verifcation that Neil Rogers did his show via remote. The discussion that followed was about the merits of remote shows being able to stay in touch with the local market. With me, it's not about politics, just what I find interesting and entertaining. Joyce is not entertaining - to me. On the other hand, Rush and Randi Rhodes are. And so are Neil and Schnitt. All of them for different reasons. That you and I have different opinions on this should be no big deal. That's what the board is all about, right? People interested in radio sharing opinions. But since you brought it up - I surmise the only reason Joyce is still at James Crystal is she's good at selling her own spots.

That always happens. Especially if Emineminem jumps in.

I *suspect* Steve Kane was better.
But he was out the door with the rest.
