NEPA tv blog

I ran into a blog by "Howard Beale," a local tv reporter. Maybe someone here posted about it; I forget where I got the info. If not, here's his URL. It's a moderated board with no name-calling allowed. Looks good.

What better place to have heard about it than on R-I's NEPA board?<P ID="signature">______________

Looks like another wannabe taking shots at those who manage to make a living in broadcasting.

I think he, or she, is for real. Couple of days ago, he told me how he's had to stop a bunch of bad replies before they were posted. Someone taking shots would have let them go through. (And, no, I do not know who he is; his e-mail is the same anonymous "Howard Beale" as on the board. Does seem to be a nice person.)

"Howard" took a cheap shot at Jane Adonizio a week ago, and "he" is allowing some questionable comments about some others in town.

I'm trying to find HB's post about JA. Where is it? Or do old posts fall off the bottom of the page? As to the questionable comments, I think there's a fine line between legit criticism and cheap shots; the deciding factor sometimes can be the wording, as much as the comment. It's an umpire's call.

I dunno; I think his take was balanced. Some liked her, as he said in his opener, and some did not. He printed comments both positive and negative and, although I don't read every post, I think the atmosphere over there is far better than most places online.

Howard based his original post on a column written by that paragon or morality and virtue, "Rube Lomax" of Electric City. The fair and balanced part was added after some people complained.

Point well taken and accepted. I do think it is good that he added all the other comments, rather than just blow them off and appear unanswerable to all.

That post can be found if you click on November Archives, it's titled, People Actually Read This?

I loved the comments about Rude Rube more than the actual post. The third or fourth comment said, "What does that mean, "we all know what drives Wendy's column"? I thought it was alcohol and desperately clinging to fading youth...no?"

Made me laugh out loud.

The Wendy that refers to in case you didn't know is actually Rude Rube. She's on some Pennsylvania Affairs show on WVIA too. If she really drinks as much as her Rude Rube persona claims to, won't be long before someone will have to step up and do an intervention.

It didn't seem like he based it entirely on Rude Rube's column, it was just the linked comment about "some people were apparently not upset to see her go" or whatever it was. "Howard" did amend the initial post, and he recently posted an apology for the whole thing.

I don't think he's taking potshots at anyone. I just think there are some people who are uptight about what he's saying about the news media here.

*shrugs*
