NERW revised website

Many of you that read Scott Fybush's NERW website are aware that he is in the process of revising his website and going to subscription. He explained at length why he is doing it and I have no doubt that it is justified. You can not fault anyone for wanting to have a profitable business. But as a casual observer of radio and TV industry news, I cannot justify subscribing regardless of how small of a charge it might be. There are other sources of this kind of news including this website. With just over 3 years until I can retire early, I am trying to save as much as I can. My occupation, a two-way radio technician requires me to travel to mountaintops in all kinds of wx, so working longer than early retirement eligibility is something I want to avoid.
I wish Mr. Fybush good luck with his service which is a very good source of news for those who work in broadcasting.

Thanks, Knickman. We'll see how it goes.

As you note...after 17 years (!) of giving the column away in various forms (NERW actually predates the Web as we know it) and trying to make a go of it as an ad-supported operation (nearly impossible in today's digital advertising climate for a small standalone site with no external sales support), my finances simply don't allow me to keep doing that anymore.

The initial reaction has been quite good from my readers, so I'm hopeful that the new version of the site, which launches fully this week, will be a success and that NERW will be able to continue for years to come. We'll see how it all plays out.

I should note that some parts of the site, including the current week's Tower Site of the Week, will remain available to non-subscribers, but the full archives, commenting capability and other enhancements will be available only to subscribers. At as little as $15 a year (for unemployed/underemployed/students/seniors), the hope is that most users find it worth their while.

Scott, good luck.

Don't give up your day job (NERW isn't your day job,is it?) though,eh?

The site is, in fact, a pretty significant part of my income...or at least it needs to become one in order to justify the amount of time it takes to produce and manage.

Ever since I discovered NERW (back when) it's been a weekly ritualistic must-read! You're lucky that you can this much time and effort into something that you're truly passionate about. But passion aside, we know you have bills too... and the day had to come sometime. I've been a subscriber in the past, and although I haven't taken the plunge on the new venture yet... I probably will.

Many thanks and 3 cheers!

@RBW: Like you, I was on the fence... but the day I learned Scott was no longer employed at the radio station, that's when I decided to sign up for at least one year. It's the least I can do. ;)

[By the by, Scott: I received an email last week saying the username and password would be sent in a few days, and have received nothing thus far... just an FYI.]
