NERW: 'UMB CP in Andover; 6/15 for ESPN?

Latest edition of North East Radio Watch mentions that WUMB applied for the 91.7 vacated by WPAA and got a CP to send some of its signal toward Riverdale--er,
Haverhill (yes, the inspiration for the town in Archie comics, but I digress).
Scott also says June 15 _might_ be (some sources hint) when 890 and 1400 go from Spanish-language
to ESPN deportes--er, ESPN sports...

Yes, I am a radio sales weasel but there would
be no programming if it wasn't for loooong commercial breaks. Remmeber that!</P>

Re: NERW: 'UMB CP in Andover;

WUMB needs another repeater/translator/upgrade whatever like they need a hole in the head.

Since WUML is a cousin WUMB should have let UML on 91.5 apply for an upgrade since it was WPAA on 91.7 that has kept UML from being heard in that neighborhood.

WLTI, the incarnation before WJUL and WUMB had a unusual for its time directional FM antenna that nulled Andover to protect WPAA. Ya ya ya there is something to be said about WMFO on the same frequency down the street in Medford, but I still think UML dropped the ball on this.

If thier grand plan is to become a communications school ( DiNitale a political hack is already in place at well over 100G a year, and Christopher Lydon's return to radio) it would be wise to get as much signal and coverage as possible.
Just my opinion as a non profrssional radio fan..yours is?

There is no CP for another repeater/translator for WUMB or WUML in Andover.

There is no CP for WPAA's former Andover license, nor any new CP for 91.7 in Andover.

The CP is simply for a power increase and pattern modification for 91.7 WNEF Newburyport, a repeater of WUMB transmitting from Amesbury.

The CP increases WNEF from 470 to 1000 watts ERP, and eliminates the null toward Andover that used to protect WPAA. They will be sending some signal from WNEF's transmitter in Amesbury toward Andover, but not putting on a new transmitter licensed to Andover.

Eli this is my way of saying I am sick of U Mass Boston trying to build an empire.

I know that, read above.

Did I say there was? Although UMB's action in Newburyport probably beat some religious broadcaster from the North Pole from filing an application.

Once again I repeat that honor for getting around the null should go to U Mass Lowell since they were there long before U Mass Boston existed, or got into Newburyport., If it wasn't for having to protect WPAA that area would have been in WLTI/WJUL/WUML's primary contour.

No, you didn't, but just because my post followed yours didn't mean I was replying to only you in this thread. The way RaccoonRadio interpreted the Fybush column article in his above post seemed uncertain about that distinction at first.
