NESN being shopped?

Has anyone heard rumblings about the Red Sox putting out feelers for NESN? When you think about it, they have investors who may be looking to cash out. Plus, they could probably sell NESN alone and get back their entire initial investment.

I wouldn't be surprised. I know New York Times Co. divested all broadcast properties earlier in the year. Who buys, though? Comcast?

In my opinion, it would be nice to see CBS buy it. Split the games with TV38. Maybe even brand as WBZ SportsChannel.

Comcast already bought FSNNE, but then again it might be interesting to see one sports network for all of new england (with split feeds in the winter) just to see how its programmed

NESN is NOT for sale

The Red Sox and Bruins are part-owners of NESN. They are NOT going to sell a TV channel that is central to their overall operation.

Which would you rather have, all the Red Sox games on cable/satellite throughout New England or half the games on an OTA channel not available outside the Boston DMA? The only people who drool over OTA telecasts are the fanboys/slackers who have nothing better to do with their time than start rumors.

As for Comcast buying NESN? You'd have antitrust problems to begin with. Also, FSN/CSN New England may lose some of its luster as its main attraction (Celtics) is in a league where a referee has just been fingered for betting on games.

I think the Red Sox see NESN and its advertising space as too much of an annual revenue cash cow. They may make back some of that money on the sale but yearly, they'd come out short, I would assume. They already play in the smallest park in baseball. Why would they cut out a major revenue stream in a sport where there is no cap and they have to split some of their money as it is? This would put them further behind the Yankees in terms of finances and bring them closer to the pack with teams like Anaheim. I doubt we see this happen.

Baseball teams around the country are buying into cable channels. MASN down in DC, YES and SNY in NYC.

Also, I don't think the government would care (anti-trust) if Comcast owned FSN-NE and NESN. LA has FSN and FSN-prime ticket. Maybe Comcast could operate NESN for the Sox and Bruins the way Comcast runs SNY for the Mets in NYC. That is just like the CSNs around the country.

Why get rid of the NESN name and have FOX take over? NESN is a popular name in New England. Also with FOX just getting rid of FSN NE why are they going to buy NESN.

Fox Network did not own FSN NE. It was jointly owned by Cablevision and Comcast. Comcast bought out Cablevision's 50% stake in FSN NE.

In this past Friday's globe it was reported that the Yankees are shopping YES Network to see if someone will pay them a kings ransom for it. Hey, if you feel as if the value has peeked, why not sell now?

besides , with comcast sports net about to take over the soon to be put to sleep FSN NE seems likely that a battle could come for the rights to Red Sox and Bruins games

With the Red Sox and Bruins both owning a piece of NESN, even Comcast would have a tough time getting the rights to either team unless of course they purchased NESN or the Red Sox or both. Never say never.

I see Comcast has the domain www.csnnewengland.com. Now when is FSN New England going to be CSN New England? I would say it will be before the Celtics start playing basketball.
I would say that scenario is prettty likely. Why not take advantage of the beginning of a hot Celtics season to launch the new brand. I hear that it will most likely be branded as Comcast Sports Net. CSN has been tried in other markets and gone back to the full Comcast Sports Net name.

With FSN-NE being no more, who, if anyone, will carry Pac-10 football and basketball games and ACC hoops games (not BC-related)?

I have the comcast sports package so I will still get the regional fox college games, but for those who do not have this package...?
