NESN (New England Sports Network) hits new low

Good evening. I have to lodge a formal complaint to the people who run NESN (the New England Sports Network). Tonight (Monday), they were airing the ball game between the Red Sox and the Twins. While this game is being played in Minneapolis, what do I see on my screen behind home plate? A MASSACHUSETTS LOTTERY AD? If this were a home game at Fenway, I'd have no problem with it. For those who weren't watching, the ad was done in chroma key fashion, kind of like what FOX does during their baseball coverage. Another check just now (9:50 PM) had an in-house ad running. This is totally pathetic!

I'm assuming you are a Sox fan? Just be glad you can watch the game and don't let something like an advertisement get you all worked up. Sheese.

No, I am a die-hard Yankees fan. My hatred for the Red Sox is not the point here. I can understand FOX or ESPN inserting their ads on a national basis like that. It's quite annoying, but I know they're gonna do it. However, I think games on a regional basis like that should be left alone, with the ads scrolling behind the plate as if you were at the game. Last time I checked, I didn't see YES (the Yankees regional sports station) doing that.

It was a national game last night (ESPN), so all you'd have seen behind home plate if you were at the Metrodome was a green screen.

Increasingly, the networks that air the local games are using the green screen instead of a traditional physical ad behind home plate, just for this purpose, so the home and away broadcasts can have local ads.

Very few people at the games can even see the ads at the ballpark anyway. Most of the time these days the people there see a green screen as well.

True Yankees fans wouldn't be caught dead watching a Sox game, much less admitting to it in a public forum.

True Sox fans, on the other hand, have to keep an eye on the Yankees game to make sure they're losing.

(And this true Sox fan will even admit to having been at Yankee Stadium last week, just to see a game there once...and to root for the Indians...)

You know what I'm p'o-ed about? I'm sitting here, drinking a grape Faygo soda, and the can is purple. But what about the grapes that are green? They're totally ignoring fans of green grapes!! Unacceptable.

I just don't see the big deal in all of this. NESN can insert whatever ads they want, no matter where the game is being played. Besides, who actually pays attention to those ads anyway.

Apparently I do? ;)

Again, like I said on the New England TV board, I hadn't seen this type of advertising on a local or regional level. I was already peeved by advertising on almost every channel DURING shows.

Yes, I'm trying to move on now. :)
