Netflix Gets NFL Opener

Netflix will broadcast the NFL week 1 Thursday night game from Australia:

This isn’t opening night. It’s night 2.

Unless the NFL has a separate game on September 9 (Wednesday), this will be the opening game of the season. Also keep in mind that anything played in Australia will be 15-20 hours behind in the U.S., meaning that it will be Friday morning, September 11, when people in Melbourne will get to see the game live. By the way, I'm assuming that Westwood One will provide the live radio feed for the U.S. of that game.

The first game of the 2026 season will be televised by NBC, on Wednesday, September 9. The second game of the 2026 season will stream

Australia is 15-20 hours ahead of the USA, which means the games will be seen on Thursday morning in Australia, and Wednesday evening in the USA.

The Niners are screwed this season.
How so? Because they start the season in Australia?

The game is at 10:35am Friday, September 11 in Melbourne. If the team plane leaves that evening for the 14.5 hour trip back home, they will arrive back in San Francisco mid-afternoon……on Friday, September 11. Next game would be nine days away.

They have the most travel of any team in the league. Australia and also Germany.
