Network Indiana

As the number of news staffs shrink, have you noticed that Network Indiana becomes more Indianapolis-focused? It used to be that WGBF would pitch in some stories from Evansville or WTHI from Terre Haute or Tom Hammond from Backyard Broadcasting in Muncie.

Mostly WIBC reporters file their reports and they re-tag them for Network Indiana and they end up airing on WRAY and a handful of other stations across the state.

Irreversible trend?

With the reduction of local news staffs at Affiliate radio stations throughout the state I agree it becomes more of a challenge to feature outside Indy Metro news wraps on stories. Despite that challenge Network Indiana runs circles around AP in providing state news. Does it really make a difference if the story is voiced by an NI reporter as opposed to an Affiliate in Earl Park? If the information is conveyed accurately what harm is done? Network Indiana needs to be a service that is of benefit for stations throughout the state....a content provider. Just because the content originates from Indy does that lessen the quality of that content?

Network Indiana is based in the state capital and does a heck of a job of covering news stories of interest throughout the State.

Yes, I am biased.

I thought Network Indiana did a great job during the time I spent in Indiana. Great service! I'm biased too, I am friends and a former co-worker of a former ND there and I lobbied hard for my station to pick up the service. Thanks to John for letting me "test drive" the service prior to purchase. I did get to use it in an official capacity on my last day at the station LOL! I too would like to see more affiliates submit stories. I am a firm believer in making a network affiliation as much of a give-take relationship as possible. Even when we were just in "test drive" mode I submitted several things. That led to a great relationship with John and the NI team. I hope my replacement has continued those relationships. I'll also agree that NI was just as good, if not better, than AP service in Indiana and it blows Metro out of the water. Any station that needs Indiana news should without question be an affiliate of Network Indiana.

I agree that Network Indiana does run circles around the AP.

I'm not trying to minimize the work that comes out of Monument Circle - it is a good product. I just wish there were more news directors around the state who would help you out like the stations I mentioned used to.

I still have my rather large collection of EMMS shares...why did they go up in Value?

The company renegotiated some of its debt on Tuesday. That's all I can think of.

As a kin to the personality of the late Charles Kurault, I travel the states and absorb the local and regional fair....Only in radio and tv... We have a GEM in NI.... I hear many state wide networks and (I might show my Hoosier bias) I really seem a quality state network.. I enjoy hearing it locally at WBNL (Ralph Turpen's AM) in Boonville... He puts the national net at the top of the hour and NI at the :30... Sports is well done, as well.. We just need to feed them Indiana news from our regions and not send junk.... Don't you think????
