Network morning shows relevant?

My personal favorite weather cut in is Al Roker to WTHR:

Roker: Here's a Look at What's happening in your neck of the woods
WTHR Station Voice: "Weather on Eyewitness News is brought to you by IndyAutos.com"
Chuck Lofton (WTHR WX guy): Today we're looking for a quarter inch of rain, mostly cloudy, high 57

More recently, they've moved the ad to after Lofton gives the weather, which is better.

WAVY 10 (Norfolk/VA Bch./Newport News market) is/was the source of perhaps *my* favorite weather cut of all time (during a 2003 vacation in Kill Devil Hills, NC, pre-Isabel; don't know if it still goes quite like that today)...

Then the weatherperson served up the forecast.

When I started this thread, I failed to mention that due to my schedule I tend to catch the 2nd hour of the network morning shows. If they are indeed "fluffier" in the 2nd hour, perhaps that is what is driving my dissatisfaction. But if I hear one more "here's what's happening in your neck of the woods...", followed by the local anchor starting with, "well, here in our neck of the woods..." I'm going to throw my egg mcmuffin at my tv. And why, oh why, do people feel compelled to bring 10-foot banners saying hi to grandma in Tulsa that may or may not be seen by grandma in Tulsa who may or may not be watching? Has network tv simply gone insane? (rhetorical)

Where do you live? I've watched "Today" from time to time, such as on Katie's last day, and our weather guys (on KING Seattle) don't seem to be that cheezy. For some reason, that sounds like something an O&O would do.

Overall, compared to many markets, KING has a pretty serious (non-hyper) morning newscast. AFAIK, they don't have "Weather and Traffic Together on the 5's ALL MORNING LONG!!!!!", etc., etc., etc. Rich Marriott doesn't have to stoop to such nonsense as "answering Al Roker". Furthermore, some of the cut-ins may be taped.

My favorite cut-in was in the mid-90's. Right before the weather segment, Katie asked him, "Who names the hurricanes?" Al hemmed and hawed and mumbled something about the weather service. The local KXAS morning met, Rebecca Miller, actually corrected Al's mis-statement live on the air. I thought to myself that the late, legendary Chief Meteorologist Harold Taft must have been similing to himself up in Heaven !

Yah, when the local anchor knows more than the national guy, that tells a lot.

As a former Seattle resident, KING has always been quite professional, although due to competition, even they have stooped to LCD (lowest common denominator) at times. Seattle's local news is known around the country as among the best from a quality standpoint. While they certainly don't shy away from sensationalism at times, it isn't as pronounced as some markets that I won't mention. (OK, Miami, Los Angeles, Phoenix, New York come to mind)...or almost any Fox affiliate.

Except FOX O&O KDVR 31 here in Denver. They're about as professional as a local newscast can get wthout the sensationalism. That's because they've found they don't need it.

About the closest to a tabloid-style newscast we see in Denver is on KMGH 7, which is a little flashy in their newscasts, but even it is pretty mellow.
