Network Questions

Regarding the (UGH) My Network news, I have quite a few questions myself.

1. Why would Fox start another network instead of keeipng its stations independent? In my mind if they had done the latter, it would have presented more opportunities for those stations to produce their own local shows.
2. If Tribune wanted to own network affiliates, why didn't they start their own network in the first place?

That's more or less what they did, it's just that they wanted a common source of programming between them, and it's cheaper to produce one or two shows for each station than for each station to procure programming ala-carte. And by branding it, they hope to sell it to some other indies down the road.

A station produce local programming? What a concept. Unfortunately, this is Uncle Rupert we're talking about.

They did. It was called the WB. They were Warner's partner in it.

I meant to say without being a partner with another company.
