Neumann Mics, cheaper in Germany?

I have a friend that is in Europe for the summer, and I'm wondering what Neumann's go for down there? I've heard they drive Mercedes like they're Camry's, so I'm wondering if the same applies for mics.

I've looked on the internet, but I assume every Geman site in english is obviously trying to make a profit, and I don't read german so I haven't checked out any local german retailers. I'm basically wondering the price in the stores. Substantially cheaper?

Also, I understand customs would probably charge duty if he brings it back to Canada, but no point in looking into that if there's no real savings anyway.

Randy.

Don't count on it, Randy. I think you'll find that it's nearly exactly the same. Maybe a few bucks, but not enough to make it worth the effort. Thinking about investing in a Neumann?

BTW, the Mercedes you see in Germany essentially ARE Camrys. Not sure if it's still made, but the Ford Escort in Europe was an extremely expensive rally car...Same logo, name and similar body style to those sold here, but a very different car.

Thanks Emmett. and no I'm not really looking at Neumann's right now. There's a lot of things I need before i take that plunge. I was just thinking that if it was too cheap to pass up I'd grab one.

I'm looking for another job so I'm going to have to move and worry about sound proofing and stuff before it'd be worth my while to get another condenser. I'm thinking my next mic will be a dynamic. Probably an SM7 or a Heil Pr40 (I think thats what it's called). Maybe a 421. I see used ones around for cheap. Do you know if they generally keep their sound. At work I think my 421s are about 15-20 years old and they still sound pretty good. But they've been in the same studios for all that time so haven't got beaten up too bad, aside from the regular announcer wear and tear.

Randy.

Yes, dynamics generally hold their sound extremely well. The BCM 705 is cool too. Based on the 421 capsule. Sounds great!
