NEUMANN TLM 103 FOR SALE

When I built the home studio in 2002, this one was my first big studio mic. But it's time to sell my Neumann TLM 103 Condenser.

In case you're not familiar with the Neumann, a great page for info on the mic is http://www.coutant.org/tlm103/index.html.

Also check that sweet German mic sound at the Transom mic shootout page - the Neumann TLM 103 is microphone D in the shootout at http://www.transom.org/tools/recording_interviewing/200508.mic_shootout.html

I bought the mic, new from Sweetwater, for 1 grand. I've used it in a non-smoking studio, and always with a windscreen. But I've found that my clients prefer my 416 on the style of VO that I do. So, since 2004, the 103 has been used more and more sparingly. When not in use, it always has been well stored - protected inside the wooden and padded case it shipped in.

Bottom line, similar used TLM 103s sell on eBay for anywhere from 700 to 800 bucks. My hope is that I can put this mic into the hands of someone who's wanted to step up to a Neumann, someone who'll love this mic, but - until now - hasn't had the cash to take the step. So, on radio-info only, I'm willing to let this mic go for $629 - a 37% savings from new, plus another $20 shipping. $649 total. Sweet wood case, and bilingual "operating instructions" are included.

"Act now! Here's how to order..."

If you're ready to buy, contact me via the Personal Message feature on radio-info. And then, please also e-mail me with your interest at [email protected]. First come, first served. In case of multiple interest, the time stamp on the Personal Message feature will determine "who's on first." Payment by PayPal only. If the mic doesn't draw any interest here, I'll take it to eBay for a higher price on Thursday, April 24th.

Any questions or need for clarifications to [email protected].

If You're Still Looking...

NPR's All Things Considered had an interesting story about a couple who manufactures vintage replica microphones, including Neumann U47 replicas and others. Check it out here.

You can also check out the "master builder's" website here.

Hey, Jeff, he's less than 300 miles from Otto...

I heard the NPR broadcast but had a short interruption about the time they discussed the older German gentleman who had fallen in the elevator shaft. Got to go back and pick that up from the website.

I was wondering if anyone here had tried his mics. Does he have the touch.... or is he just a marketing opportunist?

Not that I can justify one, but would love to play with the ribbon-mic with tube amp that he makes.
