I caught Neumie and Ryan this AM. I've always been a big fan of Bob Ryan, and he's still one of the best. Neumie has been doing a lot of fill-in work lately and the more of him I hear the less I like. Maybe he just annoyed me with his touting of the World Cup, a few weeks back, but he seems to be trying to be Mr. Contrarian. He's just throwing garbage out there and hoping for a reaction.
Either that or he's just lost it. This AM, in the middle of some preposterous argument, he stated that the last three Super Bowl winners had only 8 or 9 regular season wins. Even the most casual football fan (never mind a veteran sports talk show host) knows better. No Super Bowl winner, since the 16 game schedule went in has ever won less than 10. Ryan called him on it instantly, but Neumie insisted. I suspect that one of the producers wised him up, because he suddenly said, oh never mind what I said.
Without re-hashing the whole show, he took several other positions that seemed to go against the consensus, I suspect, just to be different. At his age, I don't think this is the time to try to re-invent himself.
