K.M. Richards
Program Director, The Eighties Channel™
With the changes in the aftermath of Frank Berry's passing in September (RIP), the management team of David Eduardo, Lance Venta, (Scott) Fybush and (Chris) Huff have decided to invite me back to RD. My microphone was "turned back on" as of Wednesday.
For those who don't already know me from either my past history here or my work in the industry: I have been in radio since the summer before my senior year of high school, which makes it 50 years as of July 2023. Worked weekends during my senior year, went full-time at the same station after graduation and stayed there for four years. First time in the PD chair was 1978-1981, at another station in the same market (just north of Los Angeles, where I am now based) which I had great luck in taking from "no-show" in the ratings to #5 in the first book and which resulted in the mom-and-pop owners selling for a then-unheard of $1.2M three years later. Lots of stations -- both on-air and programming -- followed, including a stint in afternoon drive in 1988 at Y97 in Santa Barbara where I scored an unbelievable 23 share in 12+.
In recent years, I have been focused on my all-80's Classic Hits format, The Eighties Channel™, which is presently running on KRKE in Albuquerque and is available for stations in additional markets (hint, hint to any station management types reading
). Details and a "listen live" link at KMRichards.com.
I was also a moderator for the California boards on the predecessor to RD, Radio-Info.com ... an eternity ago. The less said about that, the better.
Glad to be back here and I hope that there are more people happy about my return than upset by it. (There are still some lingering grudges around from the R-I days ... sigh).
