NEW 100.7 Wilkes-Barre

Bold Gold has filed an application to move the 100.9 translator (5 watts, licensed to Folstown, and covering Nanticoke) to Wilkes-Barre, change frequency to 100.7, and raise power to 99 watts. The app lists the originating station as WYCK. This is interesting as there could be several scenarios:

Will we see Sportsradio 'The Game' on 100.7, or will WYCK simlucast 104.9 thus allowing 100.7 to give 'The River' better Wilkes-Barre coverage? This translator would extend The River's 60dbu contour so 100.7 could not simulcast 104.9 directly, but WYCK can simulcast 104.9, thus allowing 100.7 to carry 'The River.'

Or: will WYCK simulcast 94.3 thus allowing 'The Talker' to show up on 100.7 (same rules above apply: WYCK needs to be used so as to not directly extend WTRW's 60dbu contour.) WTRW desperately needs Luzerne County coverage to be able to compete ratings wise with WILK.

100.7 application:

100.9 currently:

Note: this translator was originally used to simulcast 103.5 WHLM-FM, but it was sold to Bold Gold when Bold Gold sold 1280 Berwick to the folks who own WHLM-FM.

Or (I shouldn't re-ignite this should I?): this would be a great opportunity to have WARM 590, 1340, 1400, 1440, 94.3, 100.7, lol.

I'd have to think the 100 watt signal at 100.7 would have to do better than,
what is shown on the google map. Looks like it will be coming off the 1340 tower.

A bit of clarification on the maps: the inner red contour shown on radio-locator is the same as the only contour shown on the FCC maps (60dbu), so yes the signal will go farther. The FCC just shows the 60dbu as it is the protected contour (which theoretically should be free of interference from other signals). When radio-locator is updated (usually when a CP is issued) you'll be able to see the comparable coverage of what they call distant (blue) and fringe (purple) for the 100.7 signal.

City grade (70dbu) is not shown on either and would be an even smaller circle.

Aren't they worried about interference from WLEV. Last time I traveled to Wilkesbarre, I had no problem picking up 100.7 out of the Lehigh Valley.

It would be blasted out, so to speak.
When you're by the VA hospital, near to where the 100.7 signal would be being sent from,
the signal from WLEV is weak.
Essentially it travels over the Wyoming Valley, and the signal from the WYCK tower would be underneath it.
There might be some back and forth in the areas north of Dallas and in Idetown.
To areas south of Wyoming Valley, WLEV would reign supreme. The WYCK tower would not get a signal out of the valley to the South due to the terrain.

This area is fast becoming "translator hell"! Too much translators ALL OVER the dial, thus lessening my chances to DX or listen to faraway stations on a good car radio. It's getting annoying.....

The Gem 104 translators is spread on different frequencies, some of whom were good DX targets until they all sign on the air in recent years. There's also Family Life Network repeaters, WFTE, Word FM, and ESPN Radio. This translator situation is getting WAY out of hand here.

I rather get out of town and probably go down I-81 somewhere in Schuylkill County for the best place to DX. Far less translators than here. Plus, you're away from the transmitters and the closest ones consist of one or two stations.

My sentiments too, Tiger1983, although in the case of WFTE, their translator probably has more listeners than their main signal.

1. Where is the best place to DX without all the awful translators in this area?

2. It would be better for WYCK to broadcast over on 95.3 instead of being on just another wasted signal. That 95.3 signal has a decent coverage throughout the W-B area and parts of Scranton, and even on route 115 in Bear Creek. Currently, 95.3 is running Gem 104, which can also be heard clearly at 104.5 in the same area.

Bold Gold doesn't own WARM. Cumulus does. As such, it would be very unlikely for Bold Gold to want to carry a competitor's station over the translator.

I never said WARM was owned by Bold Gold. What I wrote was in reference to another thread concerning 590khz and what might happen, or what might be possible, if Cumulus were to sell it, etc.
