new 100mw station opening in south philly

having paid for airtime at wpeb 88.1 fm with the station owner wanting 90% of my revenues on top of the cost of the airtime. plus, wurd 900am where i had 7 paid sponsors and wnjc 1360am with 5 sponsors. i really have grown tired of putting the money that i worked for, ie, making the phone calls, visiting the businesses, printing up press packets etc and handing it over to someone else. or, the other choice would be to work at a station have them tell me that i can't play what i want. i have to play from a playlist.or, and this i experienced personally, we don't care for your political opinion. tone it down. yeah, freedom of speech my ass. only on paper. well, i will not be subjected to these greedy little nazis any longer. i will open up a 100mw am station in about 1 to 2 months. in home, half a mile. if they put an antenna wire out their window, over 2 miles. plus i will have it hooked up to the internet. thank god i will not have to be subjected corporate radios crap. the same corporations that give us homogenized radio, plus, gutting stations of their personalites, running syndicated programs so they don't have to pay a salary and hiring one person to operate the bords.

Good luck, and hope the Philly FCC office doesn't get you. There's another pirate on 1710, in Brooklyn; a Lubavitcher Jewish station.

90% of revenues over the brokered cost of air-time ... and you TOOK THE JOB? On an educational station out of the "normal" FM band?

No sorrow her
e, pal.

100mw.

Listen, I have a Mr. Microphone or a Radio Shack "Broadcaster Kit" that I'll gladly give you that will get out as far.

Do you have a job, by chance? If not, you need to.

Welcome to radio...

no. i did not pay the 90%. thats why i quit. second, it's amazing to hear people that are in broadcasting make comments like"i hope the fcc don't find out about" for your edification, 100mw is legal if you use an fcc approved transmitter. no hobby kits. third,it has to be an 8 or 4 ft ground. some fcc inspectors don't like drainpipe grounds. and lastly as long as you are not interfering with a lincensed broadcaster, theres no problem. it's sad when someone trys to act cocky, like they are so witty and intelligent, and all the while they have NOOO idea what they are talking about. stop looking foolish. :D :D

Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure use of 1710 kHz isn't. 1700, yes, but not 1710 if I understand correctly.

There used to be a "Part 15" Forum here at Radio-Info... Not sure if it's still online, but if so, that would be a good place to chat with folks who know this stuff inside out...

May I siggest looking at the web page for the 100 millawatt station operating in Lansdale, PA for the last few years, WNAR-AM. I personally know this was visited by the FCC many times and since it was set up properly and within ALL of the FCC rules, it continues to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Do it right, you won't have any problems with the FCC.

Good luck!

This topic begs the question, "How far can one transmit with 100 MW on a high end frequency such as 1600-1720?"

Just be sure of a couple of things......
1. That your TX power does not exceed 100mW.
2. That you're antenna system does not exceed 3 meters in length.
3. Keep it clean.

If you follow those simple rules from part 15, you should have no problems with the FCC. There are several of these stations operating in the region, most of which are known and have been inspected by the Langhorne FCC office and given the ok. Follow the rules and you'll be fine.

FYI...I am in the process of putting two of these part 15's on the air in Lansdale, and have researched it heavily, for my own protection. I am using Hamilton's AM1000 Rangemaster Transmitters, which are type accepted for part 15 operation.

If you install it properly, you can get anywhere from 1-2 miles coverage.

The station mentioned in Lansdale, WNAR-AM, is actually operating 3 transmitters in parallel for 300mW. Perfectly legal according to the Langhorner office. He can often be heard 3-4 miles away.

Some of the guys who sell these systems have said they actually operate better on the high end of the AM, at least in the daytime... I don't pretend to understand how this can be, but that's what they said... Under ideal conditions around here, one might be able to get a usable mile in each direction... Then again, "usable" to a radio geek versus what is acceptable to a layperson? Two entirely different things!

Perhaps Rene can explain the whole "higher end of the dial being better" thing, as unusual as it sounds, that is, if it's even true.

(Don't forget, BMI has begun sending its bounty-hunters as part of an insanity campaign out to get Part 15-ers playing music without licensing. And these days, some might prefer to tangle with FCC than BMI/ASCAP.)

Every time I'm in the Lansdale area I forget to check for this station. On what frequency can it be heard? This is the one that streams the OTR, right?

THANK YOU. it's what i have been trying to say to the hardheaded all along, YOU CAN braodcast at 100mw. you will get even better range if you use the innovonics222 audio processor. it's made for am braodcasting.
in home, about half a mail. with antenna wire out the window, some people up to 3 miles. with a car antenna 4 miles.so, for oaktree, there is professional 100mw broadcasting equipment out there. no mr microphones. do your homework.

i've heard from more than a few, that the rangemaster1000 audio quality is great.and if you do open a part15 station, you cannot use call letters. it has to be, for example, oldies 1710. or talk 1710.

From one Oldies/Doo wop fan to another, Good luck and have fun.
