Has anyone heard the New Station on 106.1 "Garth 106" doing a country format?

Here is what i know

Plug finally pulled on Energy 106.1
Frequency to try Country again as "Garth 106"
| Friday, December 14, 2007

Two days after the Fall radio ratings ended, Sinclair Communications laid to rest the Energy name and format on 106.1 today just before 2 p.m. to go to Country. For now, it's "Garth 106." The last track on Energy was N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye." The first on "Garth" was "The Thunder Rolls" by Garth Brooks. Energy had been on auto-pilot since late August.

The signal, doing whatever format, has suffered ratings-wise. VARTV reported back in August the short but active history of the 106.1 signal targeting the Hampton Roads market:
Flips to Country on 12/14/2007
Flips to Hot AC on 8/27/2007
Flips to Rhythmic CHR in late 1/2007
Flips to Rhythmic AC on 9/21/2006
Flips to CHR on 2/2/2005
Swaps formats with 93.7 to go Country on 9/23/2004
Frequency signs on (from Poquson) as Variety Hits on 3/7/2004
Was a downtown Norfolk repeater for 96X doing Modern Rock/Alternative since 1995
Since the frequency signed on from Poquoson almost four years ago, the format has changed eight times.

The station is ready to move its antenna to Portsmouth as soon as the FCC gives them the blessing. They hit a slight bump in the road when Tidewater Communications Inc (WNOR, WAFX, WJOI) filed an objection to the antenna move to Portsmouth.

Does anyone have any audio on the format swich and talk of new call letters and a new logo? If so please let Me know. Thank You.

Kenny

Any on-air staff yet? Is there a place for Joe Hoppel to do a weekend classics or bluegrass show?

I haven't heard of any on-air staff yet but maybe Joe Hoppel will come back and the air staff at the old KICK 106 might be on the air for the new US106. I'll find out soon.

So they really think the will get ratings against Powerhouse Eagle 97.3 ????? With this small single ????

They could not do that on 100,000 watt 93.7 as Kick-FM. I think they should have stayed with Top 40 or Hot AC. Z104 and 94.9 the Point can be hurt badly from a strong Top 40 station, especially with the future of the singal upgrade.

I too agree that 106.1 atm can't win against The Eagle. So a good idea perhaps would to do Classic Country (IE Former 100.5 WCMS). Currently WCDG-FM HD 2 does Classic Country ('60s-'80s) but being HD most people don't hear it.

Eagle is a dominate country station in Hampton Roads. John Shomby is well respected in the country music industry and is a darn good programmer. Sinclair's airstaff (still no morning show) is well below the calibar of Eagle. US 106 is attempting to get a power increase but that is pending FCC approval. Still don't think it will help them compete with Eagle.
