NEW 106.7 FM Signal

Does anyone have any information as to what the new FM stations' (106.7) signal coverage area will be? It is not listed on radio-locator or any other website at this time.

Any information would be appreciated. I'm curious to see what the new signal will look like & how powerful/non-powerful it'll be.

emm..emmm....We'll All I can say is if you want to hear Binghamton Senators Hockey drive up to Windsor and park your car next to the transmitter. Cause you sure as hell aren't going to hear it very we'll in Vestal, Endicott or anywhere past the Binghamton area...But don't worry cause 104.5 is about 20 watts, you should have some luck with that...Follish move on the Sens part if you ask me.. WINR has a killer signal.

The signal is currently broadcasting at test levels...

Yes, WINR has a killer signal during the day, the problem is at night it must change patterns and last I checked most hockey games tend to be played at night, especially in the hockey months, where "night" is well beyond when WINR switches patterns as early as what 5pm.

Feedback to the Cool 100 hockey broadcasts over the weekend have been all positive to the station...

In the near future WRRQ will be broadcasting at full power at 106.7, and will be boosted by translators at 107.1, 104.5, and 92.9.

Perhaps Justin should buy a new radio or perhaps attend engineering school. WINR has a killer nighttime signal over the metro area. As for this new signal, If it's so great, then why all the translators? Perhaps to continue the frequency confusion already enjoyed by Cool 100 listeners?! I have never seen such a rats nest of signals in my life. Perhaps it's time to buy some real radio toys and think about serving the actual communities mentioned in the license for these stations! What a concept!

By the way, I just read a post on another board pointing out the opportunity lost when the folks on Court Street decided to adopt the same music as two other stations that really are in the Binghamton market instead of giving us something truly different.

But then again, perhaps I don't know Jack....

Now I don't need a new radio, nor do I need to attend engineering school to know that the fans are all that matter to the hockey team. Anyone or even an engineering expert can say all he wants about WINR's signal, but if the fans complain they can't get it, that's all that matters to the team. Fans come from all over the region, not just the metro valley. After numerous stations over the past 33 seasons, the hockey team wanted to give FM a try and its first weekend on FM went without complaint.

Obviously, I have nothing to do with station equipment nor the swap of our city of license with KGB from the suburbs to Susquehanna, PA. I do however know we are a music station with a tower in NY and licensed in PA... We're a true Twin Tiers station, that does come in strong in the Susquehanna community. We do run station promotions and carry public service information for non-profits in Susquehanna, as well as be a part of the EAS system in PA, and obviously carry PA school closings. From an entertainment and business aspect we also serve Susquehanna, as we do live broadcasts and our Cool Tours of the PA communities. I believe we serve Susquehanna (the village & the county) as well or better than say WKGB serves Conklin, WWYL serves Chenango Bridge or WBBI serves Endwell and so on. Like most stations Cool 100 is an entertainment outlet and supplies localized content around the music that is relevent to our listners and their communities and therefore satisfying our license.

As for music, as a 29y/o, my musical tastes are bigger than Binghamton radio gives me. However, I do think something new and innovative would have created a bigger buzz for a smaller FM signal, but I also recognize that this market is OLD and hates change! Anything different gets shunned by business even if popular with listeners. Which is why we have no true CHR, no true Hot A/C, no Rhythmic Stations nor any of the quirky ready to go formats like JACK, MOVIN, KISS or BUZZ that have in the past or are now sweeping the country in communities smaller and far less ethnic. One day I hope the next generation will shake up and save this community.. or the last out will be turning out the lights!

So far - so good, weekend one there was no complaints with the Q 107 B-Sens Radio Network... and between our Binghamton area and Elmira/Corning area stations we will continue to give the Senators the coverage they demand throughout the Twin Tiers...

WINR has a FABULOUS east-west nighttime signal. It kicks the daylights out of that paltry signal that emanates from Upper Court Street at ANY time of the day. It is, without a doubt THEE best nightime AM signal in the market for covering the entire Owego-Binghamton area. WINR can easily be heard in Owego at night. The move by the Senators is a foolish move. But since the Sens buy the time, 106.7 probably gave them a bargain-basement rate to get something going, and the media buyer for the Senators is probably a nice young sort who doesn't even know what an AM is. Cowabunga is right. Justy is wrong.

Please don't call me Justy...

The Senators brass approached us, they wanted an FM signal and wanted coverage not only in the Binghamton market, but a presence in Elmira too and we have stations in both markets.

Re: WRRQ, W283AG, and WINR

You guys are trying to justify an AM over an FM??? Face the facts....AM radio is all but dead with the exception a few 50 kw Class A AM's in big cities. 80% of all radio listeners under the age of 45 will under no circumstance ever listen or even attempt to listen to AM radio. Many advertisers will not advertise on a station that is AM; not because of its signal....because it is AM, period. Not to mention that AM radio (regardless of power or frequency) is interfered with by computers, TV's, florescent lights, metal structures, etc. Face the facts, 61 watts on 104.5, with full 60 dBu coverage of Binghamton city beats any AM station period; for that matter; even the crapiest FM with so-so coverage of an area beats even the best AM stations. Its the way things are....the reality of 2006 radio. Recently the FCC proposed allowing FM translators to rebroadcast AM radio stations, within 25 miles or the 2 mV/m of the AM station (and allow the programming to be fed via microwave or land line in stereo to such translators). Almost every AM radio station operator in the country filed in favor of this last month. Many lawyers around the FCC think this will really happen. I bet your bottom dollar that if this happens W221AX, Endwell will be rebroadcasting WINR in a heartbeat at 92.1 in Binghamton. The same thing will happen around the country to FM translators (rebroadcasting AM stations). If AM were so good, why the desperate last ditch attempt to get FM translators for AM stations. I'm the CE for a number of AM stations, its fun...the stations are trying hard; but its a tough road. Getting people to listen to AM radio is difficult and advertisers slam the door in your face as soon as they here your station is "AM". The B Senators dodge this bullet by moving to FM (like the Penguins have with great success in Wilkes-Barre).

Exactly.....WNBF AM NO# 2 in Binghamton...And that's a 12+ Share.....Yep, That's cause no one listens to AM radio anymore. WOW!

AM info

You are incorrect about AM stations in major markets....The following are 12 +: 1. NYC number 1 station is FM, no AM station in top 5; 2. LA number 1 station is FM, no AM station in top 3; 3. Chicago number 1 station is AM; 4. San Fran number 1 station is AM; 5. Dallas number 1 station is FM, no AM station is top 5; 6. Phil number 1 station is FM; 7. Houston number 1 station is FM, no AM station is top 5; 8. Wash number 1 station is FM, no AM station is top 3; 9. Detroit number 1 station is FM; 10. Atlanta number 1 station is AM.

In three of the top 10 markets an AM is Number 1; the other 7 markets FM is number 1. Except for San Fran which has severe terrain issues hampering FM signals; AM's are far surpassed by FM. All of these markets (ex. San Fran) only have 1 to 3 AM's in the top 10. As you get to smaller markets AM is even lower.

Keep in mind that 12+ numbers mean little. Most advertising is based on 25 to 54; very few advertising buys consider any listeners 55+ to have any value. These AM stations may have good 12+ numbers their 25 to 54 numbers are usually poor. WNBF has good 12 + numbers....most of this audience is 55+; making this audience not very valuable. In dollar billing I'm betting that WNBF is not in the top 3 or 4 stations in the Binghamton market.

Go Kevin, Go!

One observation about AM's...it's evolved to a large market thing. Perhaps because more of them are 50kw, some clear, or lower dial 5kw at minimum. Some are all newsers, some live/local sports talk, but in almost all cases, long established, in format for years.
The only other big AM stories are stations like WGY, Schenectady- big signal and never gave up the fight.

Leaning off the whole AM thing...I mean if you guy's wanna fight about it open a new Topic on it or something... ;)
This topic is for WRRQ...I just wanted to comment, I really don't listen to the station much cause to be honest I could really care less to I really can nerver figure out what translator I need to be on anyway when I am out driving..But I mean from my Opinion (And as one of my teachers alway's said Opinions are like ass holes we all have one) The station sounds very unfocused....and very short playlist based...I mean I don't know what the deal is if everything is still in work with adding music but if there leaning toward a jack format...They need more variety..All Q107 imaging is dry CT Taylor has a good voice..But I could do with out the kid from the street saying...This is MY Q107... When I hear that I tell ya' It makes me wanna find her and tell her where to put her Q107!!...It's like listening to WINAMP with plug-ins wired with XLR connecters to a Exciter. It sounds almost more to me that there leaning toward a AC...Hot AC format...But why do that We already have 2 AC stations in this area with WLTB and WMXW.
