New 12+ Numbers Out

WKQC was the Christmas music winner. They BARELY made it pass WLYT. I'll see if I can find out the important 25-54 numbers.

2. WBT

5. WLYT

Now that I work for the #4 station in the market I still say ratings are a crock. So now I can't be accused of sour grapes. The ratings might have been helped by the 100% LOCAL (not national) contest K-104.7 ran.

Looks like it was a good book 12+ anyway for CBS, not so good for CC.

WNMX sure didn't pick up any oldies listeners, The End doesn't look so great 12+ but maybe they have some good numbers in their demo?

What about WQNC...what happened? I think the Smooth Jazz ratings were better than that (I don't remember).

My wish for 2006 more format diversity. Let's see something REALLY different!

WEND

It looks like WEND is doing well with their target audience. Add the fact they are a C1 and their tower is in Rowan County and not Mecklenburg or Gaston and it looks more impressive. I don't think they will flip anytime soon.

5th is not that great for your target age demo. You really need to be in the top three.

This is better, but who else would really be courting males 18-34?

I remember right before 95.1 as WAQQ died, one of their jocks was bragging about being 5th in their demo. You really have to win your target demo and be 1-3 in your age demo, unless you happen to be in a market with an overabundance of 18-34 males, which Charlotte does not have.

Re: WEND

WAQQ was/is a C in the heart of the market. WEND is a rimshot C1. It's a good rimshot, but they still have better signal in High Point than they have in Rock Hill. That is not good. Their signal strength in Winston-Salem and High Point is the same as their signal strength over Charlotte and Gastonia. Charlotte is a good "rock" market. WEND is far from the end (Pun Intended) :-D 18-34 Males is the Alternative/New Rock demo. Of course you want the 25-54 "Car Dealer" demo for the big money, but I don't think many "young" formated stations can really do well outside 18-34. They performed well in their 18-34 Male demo and 5th was good in the overall 18-34 with a format that is slanted towards Males.
______________

Funny factoid, just for the heck of it.

WEND's largest single AQH demographic cell in Fall (Mon-Sun 6a-12m)?
Men 35-44.

I don't know that this really means anything, looking at an isolated book, etc. but I thought it was interesting.

Re: WEND

That is interesting. If they can grow in 25-54, that is good. Charlotte really is a rock town. It doesn't matter what kind of rock it is, rock does very well. I've been out of the Charlotte market for a while now, but these numbers look correct. I question the Atlanta market's numbers, but (from your post) I don't question any of Charlotte's numbers this time around. I guess we'll see how everything looks in May. I don't think WEND will flip to Viva or anything else. I think it's doing well. I'm constantly seeing posts on what WEND will flip to on this board. Are they doing anything to target an older audience? I'm not sure I would make any major changes.
______________
