New 24/7 news diginet to launch

How is Newsy doing on cable? People complain about the shouting and the spin and the "fake news" on the networks and cable channels, but will any of them watch a down-the-middle presentation? Is such a presentation even possible in an atmosphere in which just about anything shown or mentioned on a TV newscast -- including scientific facts -- can be attacked by some person or group of people as showing politically bias?

Newsy isn't on Sub channel yet on any Scripps Station. Charter News isn't on other providers yet other then maybe Comcast Olathe/MO this year.

Shouting, spinning and "fake news" work on dumb-ass Americans - and pull in listeners. that's why Fox News is #1 - MSNBC followed the model (from the left), and CNN has even been following suit lately. "Down the Middle" is not popular. If it was, CNN International (regular CNN to the rest of the world), would still be available here as it is far superior to American CNN - and Al Jezeera wouldn't have been a flop...though in retrospect, Al Jezeera probably should have changed their brand name for American consumption.

I do think there could be demand for something like the old HLN formula. The ability to turn on a channel and get a broadcast about the major headlines, business, entertainment and national weather in 30 minutes. Yes, anyone can turn on their phone and access this information quickly now, much more so than in 2001 when HLN started changing its formula, but I don't find the clean packaging generally available. I see potential for such a diginet.

Well what about CBSN they do a good job with national news on their streaming feed and CBSN does some promos on CBS O&O's during local newscasts. Also BBC World News has a following given that PBS affiliates air them. Also you have

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVHt1_SWTZg Al Jazeera English they have a feed on Youtube if you want international news. and yes "Down the Middle" News does exist it just depends on what part of the country is willing to watch the content from them.

Well... 2005 is when CNN Headline News actually changed its formula, signaling the beginning of the end of the old format.

Well CBSN is currently running with the old HLN format with national news on the CBS News App. BBC World does a similar thing for international news with the app feed on tablets, wifi connected tv's. Also Al Jazeera English has done an HLN type format for International news too on the YouTube feed. I don't know if a diginet is need or wanted for now given where the current demographics are going for news and talk shows.

HLN started adding talk shows OOA 2001 which is why I made that reference.

I would welcome CBS adding CBSN news as a subchannel where it has O&O's.

Newsy would be better off remaining just as a diginet with carriage on cable/satellite via its affiliates

Don't forget Newsy. They do well online too

Honestly, if Newsy were to go anywhere but a digitnet, it would kill them.....

I'd welcome it in places where it DOES NOT too (Though I'm sure their affiliates would like first dibs on it however :) )

Back to the original post of this thread how is "Newsnet" going to be viable. They are claiming to be an upstart diginet that's going to do news. But it's in a crowded market how big does the audience size has to be if they are planning to go national and on diginets. This network is going to have to compete against various outlets fighting for the same objectives that Newsnet is aiming for.

Yes, this is the same guy who tried using Kickstarter to fund his national news channel in September:

https://www.rabbitears.info/blog/in...ickstarter-To-Launch-No-Nonsense-News-Channel

The Kickstarter campaign only raised $8,000.

WMNN-LD is one of the stations named in the list an its locally known as Mi 26 News

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMNN-LD

Apparently this station is the flagship station of Michigan News Network and Newsnet.

http://yournewsnet.com/

Apparently News Net will happen later in 2018.

Note I do not see top 20 TV DMA's like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Washington DC airing NewsNet though. In cases like Los Angeles they have to deal with Charter News and in NYC they would have to deal with NY1 and News 12 though.

http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corporate/us/en/public factsheets/tv/2017-18 TV DMA Ranks.pdf

According to Nielsen Newsnet which is based in Traverse City-Cadillac is ranked DMA 118. In other words NewsNet 's audience they have in mind is smaller DMA's and the objective to to be like CBSN for Local News.

As I said in the previous thread on this subject, using a low power TV station as the flagship of a national news network is very idealistic.

https://www.radiodiscussions.com/sh...s-OTT-App-InvestigateTV&p=6209443#post6209443

Now Raycom has stepped in for app news and its called Investigate TV. We have an on going thread on that and its going to be Raycom's version of Newsy and circa.

If News net is going to survive then it will have to sell itself and companies like Hearst, Nexstar, Tegna, Gray and Meredith will have to fight over each other in the bidding process.
