New 91.5 update email from Robb

For those not on the mailing list:

Good morning everyone,
I am sending out another mass e-mailing to update you on the progress of
WKKC-FM.

First, let me personally thank each of you for listening and giving me your
feedback as we continue to explore the Columbus radio market. The response
to the 80's format has been encouraging and I enjoy listening to it
myself...it brings back wonderful memories. Radio and the music it brings
through your speakers often evokes a certain emotion. As it plays it can
transport your feelings to a different time and there is usually an
emotional imprint that comes rushing back to you as you hear your favorite
song. It is powerful. We have found there is an emotional ride that you can
experience as you listen...but much too often it gets interrupted by DJ
chatter, commercials, promos, and radio liners. So, we've tried to keep that
to a minimum. We have some public service programming that we've ascertained
can serve the community and we will be running some of it as well. But the
majority of what you hear will be music. Your music. Let us know what you
like or don't like about what you're hearing.
It does influence our decisions because we are here to serve...you!
Have you made a final decision on the format? Not yet. I thought we would
have a direction in March but the market changed as new stations were
bought, sold and moved. So, we have to reevaluate once more...but we're
close.
We built a new studio and need to work the bugs out....so I will be on the
air "taking your requests" this Saturday night if you want to call in or
listen.
Thanks again...we love you guys!

Robb Case

Thanks for the update. I will be listening this Saturday night to see. I guess I will turn XM off to see whats up. :D

I did hear Robb on the air last Saturday Night, he said they were in the new studio doing some work, and was finishing up for the evening, that was about 9:45pm or so.

I got that email too and I replied back to Robb to address what I thought was some disagreement I had with him. To his credit, he replied and in a respectable number of hours. After seeing his explanation of what he means, we are more in agreement than I thought! Now if he will just keep the 80's and hire me, I'll give birth to his children!

Did the Call letters change? I thought it was WHKC?

Yes, keep playing the wide variety of 80s, and he does need a personality in there as well. There are a few DJs I have thought would be good there if they continue doing 80s. However, I don't know that he needs more children. ;)

The calls were based on his wife's inititals, so maybe he re-married. Or she changed her first name. After reading certain other posts in this thread, what would *really* freak me out is if the calls suddenly change to WRBN!

how about a change to WHKV! Home of K-Love :) Just kidding::)

Well, if what I heard Robb play live during the hour I listened Saturday night was any indication of things to come, "K-Love" would actually be an appropriate moniker. But not THAT K-Love! :)

As you may remember, 107.1 in the Hot 105/107 days used to be WAHC after it was WTLT. That call was used for the same reason, but the reason for the A in the first position was to get the simulcast calls for WAHC/WWHT listed first in the Arbitron diaries since the stations were listed alphabetically by call signs. I don't know how much of an advantage that really provided, but that was why WAHC was chosen.

Rob could always throw us a bone and make 91.5 "Hot 91.5" (I know CHR is not done on a non com level but hey it would be awesome as a lot of the current 80s music being aired)

It seems to me that Mr. Case plans to stay with the 80s format for the foreseeable future because he asked for email suggestions on the music and music rotation. He did play one song from 1972
last Saturday and noted that they occasional play selections not then from the 80s.

Thanks for the tip on the live show last Saturday... Mr Case indicated that he would probably
do another live show this Saturday, from 7-10PM and would again take requests.

So anyone know if he plans to have a web site for the station, or some imaging, DJs, etc.? Of course, being non-comm most likely limits his budget a great deal. If he keeps playing the 80s, he will keep me as a listener. :)

Awesome! I've not gotten a chance to catch the Saturday night shows yet. I will definitely be listening this weekend, though.

From his e-mail, it sounds as if he doesn't want DJ's. Just the BEST in 80's music! I don't think he even knows or has decided on things yet but I agree...if he plays a great 80's format, I will definitely have it on my preset.

This is just a guess, but I can only assume that a website is in the works. He's a smart guy. Imaging is probably not far off either. These things just take time.
