New 92 leaving us?

Supposedly all live and local airstaffs.

I think they were using lawyer speak. From the letter I read I would say they are going to have la couple of local personalities. Some live airtimes but I am sure supplimented with a fair amount of voice tracking or jukebox mode.

Soft AC should work in my opinion. But how will it change the landscape? Will 96.7 or 106.7 shift? As for 94.3, I am glad they are getting rid of the Dial Global programming and going local. Heres to hoping The River will sound better than Flashback did. Things are starting to change in the Columbia market. 93.9 and now 92.1, 94.3.

So who will go country and take on WCOS?

Good question. I don't think anyone will though. The only station that I would remotely even consider going country considering the signal is 106.7, but that station is heritage. Citadel hasn't managed to make too much of a dent with The Coyote in Charleston with their mega signal against Clear Channel's WEZL. Columbia hasn't been a one country town since 2004. At one time, there were 4 country stations in 2004. (92.1, 93.1, 94.3, and 97.5, even 5 if you count The Bull 105.7 screaming in from Augusta.) Funny, considering when Kicks 96 flipped to AC from country, the market went 6 years with 1 country station (98-04), and now New 92 which has been 6 years in the game, (04-10) is flipping to AC also.

RadioOCD,

Both WTCB and WLTY will shift subtly in the direction of their new competitor. It won't be a huge format shift, but will be enough to slow or stop the defection.

I will tell you this, I half wonder if the "Soft AC" is actually a ploy. Who would run a Soft AC cranked to 11 on the processing?

Sounds interesting. We shall see what happens.

Just had a thought: WTCB's audience isn't what we refer to as "active" consumers...meaning their P-1's are probably not aware of the radio landscape outside of the B and maybe their second or third favorite station. Unless there is a m-a-j-o-r marketing campaign, the B's P-1's won't even probably KNOW about 92.1's switch until much later, if ever! If I were B-106, I would go merrily about doing what's been working since 1985....just a thought.

The Coyote is Myrtle Beach. The Wolf is Charleston.

I saw another thread which described the playlist on the "New" New 92, and I think AC is stretching it.

According to All Access,

92.1 shifts to Carolina 92.1, soft AC with Tim Miller on mornings. Charlie James is out the door.

94.3 remaining as Classic Hits but coming off the bird and rebranding as 94.3 the River. Resembling Cox's River Atlanta? Who knows?

Soft AC is a good flanker move. A real slow build, however. Of course, it depends on how Soft they are. WCEZ 93.5 with Format 41 did exceptionally well back in the day with a disgustingly saccharine soft AC. If they are too uptempo and current, there's WTCB.

Supposedly all live and local airstaffs.
Isn't this what Lite 96.7 was?? Columbia could use a real AC, though. WTCB is strange.
So is "New" New 92, but it's strange in a direction I could actually like. That tells you how strange it is.

All-4-One "I Can Love You Like That"

Paul Young "Every Time You Go Away"

Tina Turner "What's Love Got to Do with It"

Christina Aguilera "Beautiful"

Colbie Caillat "Bubbly", "Never Told You"

Bryan Adams "Everything I Do I Do It for You", "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman"

I don't know all of them, but the ones I do know I don't like.

Where is the other topic? I just clicked on it and posted, and now the site won't let me see it.
